And why exactly is this important? If a player wants to only play creative and visit or work with other players doing the same, why should they have to interact with the survival universe at all? It is certainly not a requirement for the survival players to interact with the creative planets.

They now have to have skills and possibly weapons in order to traverse the survival universe.

Edit: And they have to fuel a portal for every creative planet they rent, so they have to hunt (weapons and skills needed) or participate in the economy to buy (will need to grind for something to sell for coin) Oort shards. And with the way fuel works this becomes a constant component of their game play. So you force the players that want to escape the grind to have to continue to grind if they want to have access to more than one planet.

there will also be creative not connected to universe - so that’s for them

creative connected to survival seem to come with some restraints - but even then you only need to move from survival to creative once and then you just stay on creative worlds and move between them for free, if that’s what you need
not ideal, but easy enough
when there is no perfect solution in place, this is indeed preferable than anything that creates room for exploits

And how exactly will this work? If you cannot open a portal on creative over 0 blink secs how do you reach a world that is 7 blink secs away?

It’s good to hear that prices have been finalized. What are the prices?

Just one potential solution I saw elsewere:

First they’d have to make warping to creative worlds free though.

I would not be willing to add people to my Steam friends list just to access portals in a game.
I don’t think that would be a good solution for families that play either.

Plus, I believe we are still limited on the number of friends we can have in-game.

Edit to add: PC players can’t be added to a PSN friends list, and vise versa.

This was the plan. Basically the ability to grab a token from Creative and copy it into your Survival inventory and put it into the portal (survival side) and fuel it. Considering the options and other complications merging the two types of game play causes I think this just is the decent answer for now and the removal of the free fuel. People on creative don’t have to connect to Survival if they don’t want to and if they want visitors people can always still just augment warp to the planet pretty cheaply.

I’m sure they will still try to find a way at some point to allow people with the same accounts and multiple planets to be able to connect them together.

Thank you for the information James!

So it’s gonna release soon™?

Within, say two weeks?

Do we get a price update beforehand?

This honestly wouldn’t be the worst idea, but it would still suck if you just want to play creative AND wanted people to come see your world or build with you. I guess if you are renting a server, you could lock the survival fueled portal behind a door and charge people monthly coin/oort to come visit?

This was to allow the token from creative to make it into survival so a portal can be opened and any player can come in and visit/build. Now if you wanted to block some people you have to some stuff with the advanced locks I guess.

Maybe patrons of the creative worlds would be more generous with oort than I am anticipating, but I don’t see people just dropping oort into a request basket to cover the portal cost. The responsibility is still going to be on the owner to provide transportation.

Hi @james ,

Thanks for the update.

I was wondering about the little fiddly bits around the fjords.
Is there a way planned, to send you a json from the World Builder to generate a Sovereign World?

If yes: Any guide lines on the configuration of those, size etc.?

It would be a cool thing to have but to be honest I would not want to stretch the scope of the first release for that.

The idea of this update brought me back to Boundless after taking a year off.

All the best,
Golos

Well hopefully they will have another answer at some point. As I see it “local Server” mode will still need a portal as well so maybe that brings in some technology they need. Ultimately I know they felt the game was balanced enough that a person playing would be able to get enough Oort for 1 1x2 portal for them to have at a hub to their house. Now that the house is on a rented planet I guess that is where they expected that portal to point now. 1x2 at 4 weeks for 900 is do-able.

This forces players who mainly do things on creative to join hunts or find ways to get coins (which creative cannot do) to buy oorts :pensive:

Or if your builds are cool,
you might find patrons amongst the survival players to sponsor a portal or donate oort.

I’m always surprised how helpful others seem to be.
