Testing 232: Closed Storage and Decorative Blocks!

im just sayin’ theres a ton of blocks i have no desire to make because my time is better spent elsewhere, like getting oort or making tools. (looking at you mosaic tile and refined titanium alloy)
if making nice blocks to make nice builds feels like a chore… it really discourages building nice stuff and especially big stuff, especially by newer players

Idk if I would say harder. Time gated/reliant for sure. We have to wait for an exo (if there isn’t one out), then that exo must spawn kindling mass, now we’re gonna compete for farming the plants which then need to be planted and farmed to produce more. I’d much rather farm mats for bonding agent honestly.

If kindling mass just has to be added to the recipe at least spawn it on the permanent planets as well.

@james I’m trying to gather some of the seam blocks on the test server and it’s not working. Will it require a forged tool or is it not available on the test server yet?

A 295 crop sustainable kindling farm makes 900 concrete per harvest  Producing it for yourself is kind of doable after you have the seeds, but that is pretty close to my pain threshold, I wouldn’t want to farm this for a big shop.

Your need the Gathering Skill.

(Not new - just how it has always worked.)

I agree, I honestly don’t mind the more time consuming route (probably because I had no immediate plans for concrete lol).

I do now have more incentive to farm the stuff, and will probably have to raise my prices on selling them since they will have a new use, sorry guys my supply is low and I see demand growing… I only have a very small farm right now, been thinking of making a massive one somewhere, but didn’t have a whole lot of a reason to until now

So… we’ll get the gem/mineral seams out with a shovel? Eh. Why not. ^^’

We still can’t give ourselves the stone containers on testing, though. Haven’t tried to craft them, yet.

I had the wrong skill page selected, while I was looking at the right one with gathering epic. My bad. Just tried it and it works perfectly :+1:

As the resident expert on concrete in the Boundless universe, I’m also pretty disappointed about the kindling shred required. Is it possible to cut down on this with a new crafting item combining viscous blood and kindling shred, which would create a lot of- let’s call it cement- that we could use in lower quantities for more concrete? I guess rock replaces real life gravel, though why not just stick with gravel and push people into using the new rock-to-gravel recipe for color?

So lots of sand and gravel, some water, and a small amount of our new version of cement.

I feel that concrete, like glass, should be a common block. Keep the prestige and continue to widen the variety of low level blocks for more unique builds… I probably use plain rocks and trunks more than all the other blocks combined and it’s mostly because they have the least characteristics that force a certain look. Thought concrete was going to be my new go-to.

My experience so far is that this the singularly most true thing in this thread so far :stuck_out_tongue:

Haven’t got access to boundless atm, does having the gathering epic mean you can’t get the ore? Or do you use a shovel to get the seam and a hammer to get the ore?

Shovel for the seam, hammer for the ore, yes. With plants you have to use an axe if you had used shovels before.

Ahh I see, thanks!

An axe? A shovel is still working for plants on the test server. I’m using a shovel to gather seams and plants right now.

Sorry I thought that might be confusing lol… i meant in his case, if he were to get the gathering epic he will need to use axe to harvest plants.

I know one of the issues is if they made some new things easier people might then complain that the older items that were hard were a waste of their time or complain that they spent all this time on X item that is not lower on the listing but still harder to make. Since many think the recipes are off for a bunch of items, it might be helpful if people (community) took the time to create a new recipe list for all the items in the game showing what they expect things to cost and be. That way the Dev team sees what the community things all items should cost. Then they can make a decision or not and revamp everything one time

Yes, but I just did that for fun. I don’t think it will become available. Could be wrong tho
