The Forge

Honestly alot of times it does change my luck. Might just reset roll math in game.

My process of forging uses this to make it easier for me to forge the type of hammers that i want, So if one is going to tamper with this, they would also need to tamper with a lot more to make forging easier in other ways. otherwise for me, that would be a nerf to forging which I already do not like doing as is.

The amount of RNG in the system to create artificial difficulty is a little much in my book, I have said time after time again in other posts about the situation and that the RNG aspect should be replaced by something that is more skill based and less RNG based.

With the process that I use, i can get decent success rates in getting what I want, but there is absolutely no joy in doing so, and by the time I am done forging, if I can bring myself to operate the machine in the 1st place, I feel like playing a different game after all is said and done.

I made two sets of 5 earlier. I never forge more than 5 at a once. Everything went fine. Used a few transmutes but thats normal.

Same here…

I switch to another forge or heck, even from HotForger alt to ColdForger alt, it shouldn’t help but at times I feel like the game keeps track of what you’re forging… I’ve mentioned that before I think, that if I do too many 3x3 tools with the exact same method in one sitting then once it goes wrong it keeps going wrong, if I then change methods or try to forge something totally different which requires different mats or methods then all is ok again.
And if that’s the case then switching to my forging alt on Steam should help too

Hmmm, no more afk’ing for me I see! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To the sanctum!!

Ya know, what I soooo would love is to be able to script forging!

We all have our methods for it, we all know how to act when certain things happen, wouldn’t it be fantastic to be able to ‘write’ a script recipe for a certain forged item where all the logic and how to act is put into the recipe?
When it creates something that isn’t perfect you just tweak it further, etc., etc.

This would be sooo helpful to me, throw in a bunch of stacks of hammers and let it run. Come back a few hours later to perfectly forged gear!

Yes, the difficulty is actually still there since you need to make that recipe first but once it’s done you can forge while you sleep!

And I mentioned ‘write’ since it doesn’t have to be an actual scripting language it could be some visualisation of logic elements which will be turned into a script under the hood…

Hmmm, come to think of it, I am now wondering if that new Testing scripting stuff would be able to do this. Not even sure if I can access machines yet and if so if I can make it do actions for me in the forge.

I really love the idea of the current Testing’s scripting but the lack of documentation, not knowing what is possible and what is not and also knowing that any and all scripting you do won’t ever be available in the same form on Live means I haven’t done much with it yet even tho I want to, a lot…

I used to love forging now I HATE it and that is an understatement ever since venerable update it has been trash if they just removed magnetic collector from hammers axes and shovels as well as the crit boons all would be well… You are not alone man they ruined it, its a casino mini game where the house wins 90% of the time.

I have a love/hate relationship with forging. I actually really enjoy the slot machine science that goes into it, and it was one of the first things I decided to learn when I started the game. The problem for me mostly comes from the fact that I am clearly one of the few who enjoy the mechanic. Because so few people enjoy forging, there will never be enough supply for the demand of forged tools. And as much as I like it, I definitely do hit streaks of bad luck or even complete burnout from forging, and I want to just go play other parts of the game, all of which are easier/less frustrating if you have forged tools.

Long story short, I enjoy forging as it currently is, but I understand that it probably needs to be changed in some way if the vast majority of the player base doesn’t find any enjoyment in it.

My method is a bit heavy on paste, but it’s super reliable. I also count on getting magnet collector so my forge goes smoothly. I still scream at the forge, but I’d probably break things if I went for top notch gear all the time.

I see the forge as a probability matrix, the statistics do come true if you forge in quantity. When I hit a bad luck streak I think of it as using up the bad luck, since there will be godly luck eventually. I plan my rounds around hitting 33% good luck, that makes the average luck in to a positive thing. Lije this the forge feels positive 66% of the time

To understand the chances of everything I use the forge simulator, put your gums there and take a look at the boon weights. The boon bar slider is not weighed, so on average it will land in the middle. After I got the hang of it, I can see/feel the probability matrix of a technique and react correctly depending on what actually happens.

This allows me to forge with <1 vig cats per hammer, often I don’t even use a single paste.

tl;dr
I can see the matrix :eyes:, you can too!

I see it mayu…

I love forging.

But even I throw myself into our vulcano sometimes.

You can only bend the rules so far… hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha.
ha

Seriously,
If its gonna make you quit the game or something, come have a chat and maybe I can help you with some fairly reliable recipes

Crikey, so you work with 11 boon compound?? How on earth do you manage such good results with 11 boon compound lol? Definitely trying out a 9 hammer forge when I get home  the most I dare to do is 5 at a time!

The only part of forging i strongly dislike is getting the right boons. With bad RNG it can take so long and can be so frustrating. It feels like you never actually start the forging process.

Other than that, i like the meters and the RNG outcomes of them.

Oh no, no way it works with only 1 stack of boon compound, 5 was the max I would ever do with 1 stack of compounds. To do 9 at a time I use a stack of draining and a stack of corrupting boon compound and carefully manage them to not end up with any quirks or defects.

Definitely not quitting the game over it. It’s just super frustrating at times.
I use a different technique for slingbows. Just did these.

Ahhh that makes sense!

I hopped on before work to try out a 9 hammer forge using my normal ingredients.
Not great, but the RNG gods were smiling it seems, it could have gone much worse

Edit: do you swap the defect reversal out for the draining compound?

I use Corrupt 1 and pure boon 3.

I’m set in my ways I think, i think an experimental forging session may be in order!

If people want to list their usual decks that would be cool
(If that isn’t derailing the thread too much ) or PM me your deck

Sorry I was just demonstrating and explaining my method to a friend in game at the same time!

So yes that’s all that I have changed.

Now the secret to this is to realise that when you apply your first defect compound you get no defect points. Sooooo…

When you apply protection paste, fate paste, follow this with 2 draining compound and 1 corrupting compound.

Make use of this to balance/minimise your quirk and defect points and 9/10 times you won’t get any quirks or defects.

Hmmm, that sounds rather familiar!
