I don’t think that’s the intended purpose of the Warp Wraith. I think it was said that it’s to give miners a threat. I can’t really remember, so who knows?
One thing I think that needs to happen is to introduce a lot more monsters. Even if they’re temporarily reusing some of the AI of other creatures, it would at least give us something else to look at, shoot, kill, and gather from. But I think they’ve kind of handicapped themselves a little bit because the introduction of a new creature means potentially a lot more crafting recipes, model assets, sounds, animations, etc.
I mean, look how long it’s taking them to get us the warp wraith and that’s just because of AI alone! So when you’re mentioning things that essentially are boss fight mechanics, it would probably take longer than the warp wraith for us to get it. The reason for that is a real mystery.
I really wouldn’t mind Oort being obtainable from more sources, but I don’t necessarily think the volume in circulation is a problem… At a high price it would make sense if there were more ways to get it without necessarily opening the door to power creep and flooding the market. This way everybody can get some for themselves doing what they enjoy, and many more types of players will be able to make a buck or two selling surplus / filling others’ shortfall
The fact is that Oort is unique to hunting, so hunters are used to having “their” valuable thing. Like Gems to miners, and I don’t think that should change.
Yeah that would make sense except for the group of people that prefer to play solo or are casual people or don’t participate in the economy. Since this isn’t real life, I know a few people that don’t like to be forced to have to buy stuff. They also don’t want to have to pay X amount of coin for something just because the person selling feels that X is the cost of that item. Especially in a game where all resources can be recreated and there is truly no “supply” issue. So I’m just one of the group that have no interest in playing the economy game.
Certainly the economy is fun for those doing it… but for the others, we will continue to influence and showcase to the Devs why we need more options to things especially if this is a sandbox game.
This is also a MMO, if you want to play solo then good luck. Saying you should get what you want because you don’t want to play a huge part of the game, then surely that’s a tough titties sort of situation?
Kinda like playing world of warcraft without leveling, and wanting the game balanced around that.
See, I look at it in a totally different light. I see oort as the problem hunting isn’t a viable profession outside of hunting oort. Because of the need for mass amounts of oort, we likewise have a glut of creature parts. This has aided in forge tools being so cheap which means more people mining which means more gems.
Would you agree this cycle compounds itself?
If you take oort out of the hunting, then creature parts go up because less people will likely hunt. In turn creature parts go up. In turn forge prices go up, in turn less people likely to mine and more likely to buy.
To me it seems easy to see how oort compounds a lot of things, but maybe I’m just looking at it through a different lens. Again, this is talking about pulling and pushing a whole lot of levers, and as you previously noted a lot of thinking on the knock effects we would see as a result.
The whole Boundless economy is fun to analyze, to me, and speculate on. I’ve made a lot of my coin in this game by trying to look ahead at future demand or trends, and supplying them. I like discussing it and seeing where others are at and how they see it. We all have our definition of fun
the other point you could also make is the fact that right now a key selling point of the game is at the mercy of 1 group of players to keep going despite how boring and repetitive the mechanic is so if its not improved anytime soon and even more of them start to give up on it and the supply of oort becomes too low then portals get artificially locked out
yea but imagine if there was no quests in WoW the only way you could level was to do the same repeatable quest over and over
like i said above hunting is so mind numbing and if the current hunter count keeps dropping then you can kiss portals goodbye and start warping everywhere with coin we either need more mobs faster then the devs are currently releasing them or other way to get it
I actually really want a better travel / mobile storage option to increase the feeling of adventure, improve resource gathering, and reduce the need for portal use.
I see your point in ‘what if we took oort out of hunting’. But then it a thing about where do you put it? Because Oort is so valuable, gating it behind mining would be horrible as gems are already valuable. So you’d then have to add something more valuable to hunting so hunters could make enough coin to buy Oort. Miners can already sell Gems, make gems into tools to sell. Hunters have Oort. So yeh, you could revamp the whole distribution to resources, but I feel like making Oort mineable would make mining too much of a ‘necessary’ thing for everyone to do.
Yea I think there’s been a lot of focus on making oort mineable. That shouldn’t exactly be the focus I do not think. As you said, a focus on the distribution method of various resources (not just oort) would likely be the most ideal. but that would require some serious dev time so does the player base make an argument for how/why to do that or do we just keep patiently waiting for more content?
It’s a conversation that could go on forever depending on what a person currently wants out of Boundless most right now.
I think portals would still be relevant to travel to another planet and for the convenience of instant warping. Transportation/mounts/supersonic speed would be great for using to travel around the planet you are on. -and it would be fun-
I think they should make a themed update, just like farming was. “Creature invasion” or “the dimensional war” something like that.
Where they introduce new equipable armor and weapons, both melee and ranged. Some of my suggestions are in the other thread. Also, new skill trees for combat roles, tank, healers(totem users), dps. Etc. I have a lot of examples in the weapon thread.
It also can bring the ground basher, the warp wraith, rage runners for meteors specifically, as well as anything else they want to push through monster wise.
I think event level meteors should be introduced, massive single meteors level 15, where the whole community comes together to stop the flow of monsters. It can drop 1000 oort or something after completion. Edit: these should also not timeout due to deaths, but have a timer. So meteors dont go dormant halfway through.
Edit: with roles it could be so cool and engaging. You could be a protector with shield and sword, or slingbow guy, or maybe spear wielder. Then totem users on the fringe with spells or healing. Shield users could use skills to stun or something.
I agree they would still be used for travelling between planets. But a combination of allowing longer jumps between planets, another slot for shards, and mounts would be an overall improvement for all. Whether you’re a hub owner or a solo player trying to traverse the planet.
I personally don’t like games that force you into a specific role with certain abilities. I don’t want to be a pretty fairy healer with zero dps. I don’t want to be a hunking tank with 2mph movement. If I want to be a nymph warrior speed demon with 100+ melee and max agility, I should be able to do that.
Yeah, maybe they can make it non-rigid roles more fluid. Where you can spec how you want like now. But you could heal and also have a shield and stun or a bow and do support dmg. There are many options for them to use.
But this could get hype back into hunting. Then we would have abundant oort
