You can get forged tools for 5k or less. Back then they went for 20k. Why should people sell Oort? There’s no use for coin besides buying Oort, now that forged tools are dirt cheap.
I know you don’t need the rest of the community and can do it solo, but the amount of Oort you get p/hour is more with the community as you’ll be doing meteors faster and they’ll spawn in bigger + personal loot.
If you hunt Roadrunners they have a chance of dropping Rough Oortstone normally 1-2 pieces I think so the have that idea in the gme already. Does it need to be tweaked? Possibly
I’m just thinking that if you can mine Oort, then what resource in the game will have any value? Like gems used to be 500+ coin per gem, now 50c - not saying that’s an issue, but its an example of something being valuable and now not.
I think that if “professions” are a unique angle for boundless’s gameplay and economy, then each profession should have its own progression and even provide its own “gold standard” resource (like Oort). If things should be balanced, balance them; but if things should be unique and involved, let them rule their own areas of resource distribution.
Well, I’ve always said this same thing, with the caveat that it’s great for warping. I do that much more liberally now than I did before because coins are so much easier than ever to acquire now by simply finding baskets to sell to so they can craft and sell their goods to others.
I think if people started making specific locations per planet, they’d find they need to use a portal less often. I carry a SS of warp conduits every where with me and just open multiple gates as needed using the millions that are easily made by just delivering goods to baskets.
But warping has a weird stigma to it. It requires you to invest in the skill and people are stingy with their skill points.
I personally sell forges for anywhere between 5k and 60k depending on the forge.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Oort only coming from Hunting lol. If you don’t want to hunt your own Oort, then buy it. Do what you do enjoy, to make coin, to then spend on the things you don’t enjoy. If you like mining: Mine gems, sell gems, buy Oort ← bascially mining for Oort.
Why not increase the amount of ore/gems we get from meteors by a ton, enough so we never have to go mining again?
Portals aren’t only for yourself, portals are to get people to your builds.
Right. You can also sell the warp locations to/at shops so people can warp to them.
It’s the same concept as Ultimate Online ‘rune marking’ so people can ‘recall/warp’ instead of ‘portal/gate’.
I think people just have a huge stigma around warping because of coin concerns.
With the current population it would take a reprogramming if the mind almost to consider it an avenue of gameplay. I use it every day I play though so I know it works great.
Prices for items dropping isn’t a bad thing. Just means your 100k coin can buy more stuff. Uncontrolled inflation and deflation is what kills economies.
Even in early access the price of gems were slowly dropping but on top of that everyone was sitting on thousands of gems with that getting worse with bomb mining (not saying bomb mining was good or bad either).
Gems are still valuable. They’re just easy to get with the plentiful supply of cheap forged aoe tools that are out there. When the game first was released a forged aoe hammer of even “okay” quality was 25-30k a piece. Now they’re a fraction of that and that’s a good thing.
So naturally the price of gems would go down when a lot of people are running around with AOE tools. That’s normal.
Oort isn’t going to lose it’s value in its demand instantly from it being accessible in a reliable alternative way. People are still going to need it. If anything it would cause people to have more portals and that might be something the developers don’t want. Not making it obtainable through multiple reliable ways because of how expensive having more portals running for the developers is a valid reason why it can’t be mined up like ore or gems. This doesn’t mean that it won’t be in the future though.
I don’t see it being a problem if we could mine for it too.
I would be willing to lead hunts if there were people interested in unscheduled, “spontaneous “ hunts announced on Discord by myself. I can’t commit to a concrete schedule due to RL. Circarpous and Besevrona are two planets I would be interested in leading them on. I’m open to other planets but I do better on some planets than others. They would average about an hour long with about a 30 minute warning before the start. I have hunted regularly with @Ratchel (aka Bob) and have hunted sporadically others as well. I’m curious as to any interest in me leading these spontaneous hunts.
If you’re wanting more community activities. I’ll be doing a treasure hunt/race to the treasures event. Just need to finish up a few things.
We also built a race coarse ages ago that we never did anything with.
Part of the problem with that is it’s built on an AU planet so it can get pretty laggy. The other part is I’m not good at organizing events I just like building the stuff.
Building in groups can be great. And you get things done super fast. But when building with a group everyone want to put there 2 cents in. And unless you’re willing to trust one persons vision of what the said build is. You might end up with what looks every big city. A mash up of random stuff. As far as the 2 group builds I’ve done. Things went well and I’d definitely do more if the opportunity comes up.
If you or anyone wants help organize a ninja warrior event that would be cool.
I think it would be cool if we made meteors more fun by adding a 10% chance of a special oortstone creature. You could hit it X number of times before it disappeared. You would get a random amount of oort stone from it. It may be an Oortrunner, an Oortper, an Oortstock, or an Oorttrunk.
You would know it’s the special oort creature because it would have a sparkling oort effect, or glow.
If it was a boss mob at the end of the meteor… then that would be a nice reward.
Well prices dropping is good/bad depending on what side of the coin you are but that’s not the point. If Oort becomes so easily available, it loses value. Now if you wanna increase the amount of Oort you get from a meteor then that is an easier way of increases the amount of Oort in the game. But flat out adding another way to get it, would blow it out of proportion.
You bring up a good point, more Oort for single people/groups would result in more high traffic places having a crazy amount of portals. Then that might bring up a problem, but who knows. The point is, the knock on effects would take a lot of thinking.
The thing is, Oort is special to Hunting. The same way Gems are special to Mining. Why cross the two just because people don’t want to spend coin?
Edit: If there were a lack of coal in the game would you want Meteors to drop coal? Probably not.
I’ve often thought that the warp wraith would be great for this… ethereally floating through the top of the meteor as the last boss… opening random warps to move players around, spreading waves of fear to make you temporarily lose control of your character etc
Would also explain the portals opening by the meteor and spewing creatures out
On a side note. I totally messed up my request basket in Gyosha. And bought 4 rough oortstones for 20000 a piece. So someone got 80000 from me. Hahaha. Good on whoever got that coin.

Talk about inflation right. Hahaha.
i think the end fix for the recession is more mobs. not saying im against it but if oort became mineable then hunting would varly quickly die off. the solid fix would be for the devs to shift focus from all the building content and start populating the worlds they want us to build on.
at this point i think even the warp wraith is too little it would bring people back to hunts for maybe a week or 2 then we work out its pattern and boom back to square one.
Gems were special to Cuttletrunks and they took that away. I seriously doubt Oort was intended to be mainly obtained by Meteors when they’ve had that knowledge tab saying other wise for over a year now. So I don’t agree that Oort is special to hunting. It just seems like that because we’ve had Oort as a reward for doing them for as long as Meteors have been introduced.
It could be their intention that Oort is to be mined. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
In the mean time, we should be pushing them to revamp meteors cause they’re incredibly boring. I’d love it if they made them more dynamic than they are right now with different meteors spawning. ![]()
