"The Jump Ladder" by Ovis

if you don’t mind exiting on top of the red thing, it doesn’t have to be closed, and a half block on the side will do just fine. I also tried a little something to make it more ladder-y
I see no reason why this ‘feature’ should be fixed, since it is not fast or convenient

Yeh there’s a few ways to design it, I like that trellis one. You can also do a cool futurey one with the minimal blocks possible using the square chisel (I’ll post screenshots later)

its not something I would intentionally “fix”/break, but it is not a “feature” either, and if fixing a real physics issue caused this to stop working as a side-effect, then I would not choose to leave the physics broken to avoid breaking this either.

Maybe not, but since this functionality has manifested seemingly of it’s own accord, why not polish it a little bit to make it a feature? It does fill a hotly requested function around here, is an intuitive and innovative use of existing mechanics, and requires zero new assets be added to the game, while being applicable to almost every surface in the game. This deserves attention I believe.

its exploting that the physics entities are allowed to intersect with the ground to a certain extent, and using that to be able to get the physics entity to reach through the wall and stand onto the platform diagonally adjacent; there are all sorts of hueristics and thresholds involved here that get tweaked reasonably often when it comes to weeding out physics issues where people get stuck into certain block configurations (I was actually looking at changing some of these values/hueristics around to try and resolve such a stuck-in-ground case recently). its not the sort of thing that can be “polished” like that.

That makes sense, I’m just exploring hypotheticals. I have no first hand game design experience, and you guys are like wizards to me! It would be really neat if something like this one day did become a feature though. I very much understand that we shouldn’t take this as a feature for now though, so people dont get as upset if/when it breaks.

If it gets changed in the next patch, next year or never - I’m just glad to have (temporarily) added something to this game :fist:

Seeing this i am wondering why I haven’t figured that out. All those times standding on a edge where there was no edge during chiseling. Nice one you figured out^^

Made a video for people who want an easier way to absorb all the technical and strenuous ‘place, chisel, place, chisel’ details :+1:

This is a month late, but it really is so sick to me that some people still remember those days :3 @Buugi I have tried to recreate it in the new system, even built a park, but it just isn’t the same anymore with the movement changes. Regardless, i super appreciate the shout out brother.

@Ovis here is the footage jiivita made, on an early access structure i made for experimenting with it and messing around  https://youtu.be/Fd9UGKzGLvg I am glad that people still want to try to find cool movement exploits and fun ways to use them, that’s what makes great gameplay in my opinion, the emergent ways of playing them  very cool system, sorry for the necro, and carry on being a pioneer of movement
