I turned the “selected delay” value down and feel that the portals load noticeably faster by removing the “waiting for world link” loading phase. Loading times feel like the good old days again when I’m running through the PS main ring. Anyone else messed with it? Am I crazy, or is it truly a little faster?
It’s a purposeful delay before the portal will even start trying to load to avoid the client making/breaking connections for no reason (wasting performance/bandwidth) whilst looking/running around an area with a load of portals.
So yes, it will be ‘faster’.

Sweet. Thanks for the clarification!

Interesting! Is this delay implemented for Quality of Life or is it there to prevent ‘breaking’ something?

It’s QoL for the sake of lag for some people. A while back James said they changed the heuristics for portals to help with lag in areas with a bunch of portals, i.e. hubs
