But walking titans would be epic. like hearing a huge rumbling sound whenever it hits the ground xD
We are both making too many assumptions. We need to see them in the game.
true. look forward to them
I think with your “I think destruction of the worlds would be cool since they are going to regen anyways, but it would just kinda suck to build a huge city that would then get obliterated by a titan >.<” you are calling for a Tarrasque , a creature from D&D that is sleeping for decades and centuries until it awakes and begin to destroy and eat all in its way… Only to fall back in a deep long slumber afterwards…
… Devs? … We need Tarrasque like events after 1.0!
Maybe we can do something like Shadow of the Colossus,
have large Alpha/Beta races of the small creatures that wander the world.
say if we have a turtles everywhere,
we can have one large tortoise that’s oversized and covered by small little organisms, fleeting birds, moss, and trees, a back of Jungle?
Yeah, Shadow of the Collosus was already mentioned in a topic about climbing on titans, but I can’t get enough of the idea, even if I think the size of the is lesser a problem then having a system to climb on them. But may be we can use a hook on them to swing around them ;D … Also the idea of having stuff growing and living on the body of a titan sounds great, even if it may just be a decoration matter
Sounds awesum! XD
I wanna leave my idea about titans which i came up with while i answered the TITAN COMBAT COLLABORATION question in the 4# backers survey. So i’ve just read the first post so if any of this has already been mentioned well lets see this as my approval
The question is about this:
Should experienced player be able to defeat titans alone or only in teams?
So what do i think?
First the Idea of @Zouls who started the post is quite nice and titans like this should be in the game but the problem about the loot he mentioned is, at least i think so, actually a really great problem.
Thats what i most hate about all the MMORPG’s these boss raids with so much people and only about 2 or 3 actually get the loot so you have to do it over and over again, really, sorry for my spelling but that sucks. I mean it, i really would hate it to have something like this in Oort.
Another thing that bothers me is the fact that you actually need alot of friends to fight a titan. I mean these epic creatures and the great challenge it’s so awesome i would like to have the posibilty as a “lone wolf” to fight and defeat some of these titans alone.
So whats my idea?
There should be two types of titans actually.
The really big ones like @Zouls explained them, that protect a specific territory like a temple or other dungeons and smaller ones that roam the world.
Of course the smaller ones should be able do be defeated single handedly while still requiring a lot of skill and some good equipment. These should drop some special loot, maybe special resources whatever for the amount of 1 player.
The bigger ones of course should only be defeated by a group of players.
But here is another concern i have: 50- 80 players is way to much i think. This is again a fact i hate about that idea, that like 50 players are jumping around and each of them is just doing his single one task he is there for, for about 30-60 minutes (or whatever you think how long these fights should take) and than the fight is over and thats it. Doesn’t feel epic in my opinion.
No what i wanna see is that the team fighting the Titan should more like about 5-20 players in size. So that each of these players, still has a specific task, yes, but still has to do a lot of work and maybe has to perform different actions while others struggle to survive in the fight. I want that the players have to be more experienced and well prepared to fight the titan, each single of them. Yes, i actually would find it pretty neat if 100 players try to attack a titan but each of them is just prepared for there single task so that 70 of them get wiped out with a single AoE blow from the titan because they weren’t able to dodge or sustain the attack. So what i mean is that each player should be able to dodge or sustain the titan while still being in charge of dealing damage or supporting the team members.
So enough of that i guess i made my point clear.
So now to the question of loot. I said before, i hate it if just a few people get the loot so you have to defeat the boss (or titan) over and over again. So with less players involved in the fight that problem would be actually easier already but still a problem. So you can say now that this titans drops loot for about 20 players that would be ok but still a bit messy.
So my idea is rather this: make the titan guard an entrance to a dungeon and only if you defeat the titan you can enter the dungeon. The titan should of course drop either the second greatest or the greatest loot here. In the dungeon you can enter after the fight, you can find many more loot of course. So the dungeon shouldn’t be hard in terms of strong enemies since you have the strongest one already behind you but more with traps and maybe with puzzles to actually find the treasury. That would be awesome and this way you can find more loot for the whole party.
I said that the titan should drop the greatest or second greatest loot. I mean maybe the greatest loot could lie deep down in the dungeon in the hardest to reach or find spot. Thats a design question or maybe even a balance question.
Ok thats all i have to say.
Final conclusion:
1.yes make big titans only defeatable by a party of players, but please there shoudln’t be too much players arround so each player involved really should remeber the fight and feel special about his role in the fight.
2.there should be loot for everyone so handle that somehow maybe like i said it with putting more worthy loot in the dungeon of the titan itself.
3.I want smaller roaming titans, defeatable by a single player so even single players can feal the epicness of a titan fight.
Thats all, Yawaly out
I personally like the concept of Guild Wars 2 where each player gets his loot drop, no matter how many player do the run. If it’s about resources the scaling could be so high that each player gets a part of it, so if a team handles to get a titan down with only 5 players instead of 10 each one would get the double amount of the ressource. That would be fair while encouraging the perfection of each players skills and tactics.
I know its really frustrating to do the same raid over and over again but there is a reason why games like WoW have 10player raidbosses that only drop 2 items: It keeps players busy.
A big part of most MMOs is to kill the hardest bosses in order to get the best equip and since designing and balancing a new raidboss is not small task game devolpers have to stretch out the time you spend with each raidboss by things like limiting the amount of dropped items, decreasing the dropchance of valuable items or adding “cooldowns” to bossruns.
This things might be annoying for the players but they are also necessary.
Loot Split: Just make it like Trove did it. Every Player who fought against a boss/mob got his own Reward. So there was no problem in splitting the Loot. That is such an awesome system because i prefer to play solo but i understand that you need lots of people to slay a Titan. So i think this System would be great.
That’s why I only made a raid once in wow. It just sucks. Not every player has to get the superb drop, but each one should get one that it worth the work. For example in language of gaming. If you have white, green, blue and purple items dropped by enemies, let 2 people get a purple one while the others get at least the blue ones. Rare items like mounts or something simillar exclusive izrms still may have a 1-2% drop chance, but no one should go home With empty hands. Also, I don’t think that weapons or other equipment should be drops in Oort, but rare mats for special skins. Rarer items should not be better then others, but more special skin and/or with altered (not just higher) stats. If a game is about skill of players item quality should play a very minor role (at least in power levels).
No i see your point but i totally disaggree with you. At least in the way that it should be like that in Oort. And i tell you exactly why: people will be busy even if they dont have to fight the same titan 10 times or more so all of the players will get the loot. I will more like it to be that you wanna fight the titan more times because you somehow need his kind of loot more times , maybe because its some sort of resource you could use multiple times, or just because its fu*king fun.
But people will be busy in Oort online without ridiculous raids keeping you busy just because the drops are so damn low, because Oort is not just ann MMORPG (i would not even have called it that) you can build, explore, farm, and especially the exploration and buildung feature should keep you busy a long time.
I wanna raise a nice guild some day , build our own guild home , some small village, castle or city or whatever whe come up with. and than go out and explore, find the most beautiful and dangerous placed and challenge the titans and loot their dungeon and after that i want to celebrate that with my guild member and not fighting about the loot and coming to the conclusion: well guys now we have to do this 10 times more or maybe 20 times if we werent lucky.
Sry but no Oort doesn’t need to come to this solution just because they need to keep the players busy, Oort has to offer more things for that matter.
Need TL;DR too much can’t handle!
i would suggest you to just read Zouls very first post (first post of the topic), some other suggestions mainly talk about titans to be like the collosi from “Shadow of the Colossus” , and i suggest you reading my idea, a few posts before since just refered to the first post and didn’t read the rest too
