It’s was mindbending from the get go, my expectations didn’t come anywhere near what it was.
I’d been excited about the game the same time I was excited about ARK, after a couple of years of playing This War of Mine and pretty much plowing through it every which way I could think of. Boundless had more appeal but the signup was a bit confounding and ARK just let me jump right in, so there I was.
When I came back over to Boundless a few years later the signup was totally easy
Literally every difference between Boundless and Minecraft surprised me, because Boundless is better in each of those ways. The 255 colors is a ridiculous feature… and a nice segue into an anecdote…
Day one, hour or two in, I’m a few tutorial objectives ahead of my friends, impatiently trying to help them through, when one of them starts freaking out that a person was coming towards us. We still thought it was PvP and were standing there with our axes out, coming up with a plan to flank
. He waved and said he was just checking out the color palette. We had no idea there were more colors and pretty much made fun of him for like 3 days before we discovered portals and other planets and colors.
Imagine someone saying they were checking out the color palette in Minecraft where every world is the same
… but it turned out we were the idiots
@DutchOfSorissi what’s crazy is I came from modded Minecreaft for the most part. It had the colors and then some it had additional biomes if you wanted them … something like 100+ it had machines, portals, reactors and even planets (though sketchy) and I guess my point to this even though I had all that in MC it hasn’t ever made an impact on me as Boundless has … and when you add the great community we have … its just makes it all the much better. This is one of the things that separates MC for me … we are all in the same Universe …as I type this I know when I log in I could at any point run into any of you and I have at some point ran into quite a few people here … I never got that in MC even though I ran two MC servers …
I am fairly new … but I am fighting hard to make some things happen … I want things to be better I want people to want to play again … I want THIS community to continue as it is simply amazing.
To me, MC, even modded servers with my friends, was a game I played and tried to win at. Boundless is a world and community I live in.
Exactly this my friend…
I saw the live stream of PlayStation so i had a pretty good idea what i was getting my-self in to as it played on the back ground…
While i was frantically typing on my phone to get a ps card to buy Boundless and frustrated i had to wait until it had downloaded
[to add to the card]
I didn’t check country and forgot to set it to NL and bought a BE card. So i had to make my friend buy me an NL one so we could trade them…(remember it well😂)…
Sadly I didn’t know of Boundless before otherwise I would have made sure to be part of it way before release…
Do remember thinking how do they get that color in that block type like twisted or meta while it wasn’t available in that block type…
You just change it. yeah i get that but how?
chisel it…
Took me 2 months to figure out that it was done with a chisel that had the transformation boon on it.
The transformation boon was hyped up big time in my circle before that update released. I think I even stopped building for a few weeks in anticipation of all the new textures I’d be able to use.
Spot on!
Regards,
Day one for me, about 2 hours in, I had people from a nearby village stop by and invite me to come to their place and join their guild. It was fun from then on.
But I do remember meeting new players who either ran and hid in their huts or just logged off.
@xyberviri was one of those.
Wait… was that me? I remember bumping into a few players as I was going round each planet to get the colours. A few of us were manually entering the colours into the Boundless Crafting site back then ![]()
I came to realize it had to be someone around in EA which def makes it more likely he was a forumgoer… would be hilarious if it was you!
i actually heard there WERE pvp zones in early access so you guys werent that wrong
I know, it’s an old post and I’m reviving it for no reason. I don’t care. This post still makes me happy <3
Back in the day, this post is what I would link people to when they asked what on earth Boundless was and why I was spending so much time on it
A great thread. The love that so many of us have for this game is something that, hopefully, Monumental can tap into. The game should have been massive. It puzzles me why it didn’t reach the same heights as Minecraft or other sandbox crafting games.
Sad to see Aenea’s posts, though. So full of hope and optimism about the game, but gone too soon.
Yeah. I wish I had interacted with her more and really got to know her better. I still tear up a bit now and then thinking about the situation she faced there at the end…
