One thing ive never tested is if you plot above the ground do meteors and creatures still spawn on the un-plotted ground?

Creatures spawn above and below your plots, as long as the other conditions are met.

the meteorites should not spawn roughly within 4 chunks (64m) of a beaconed plot.

Still close enough to interfere with plotted farms, but not over/under them.
