We need to overhaul portals and portal fueling

at this rate, some of us are getting very burnt out with oort farming through hunts and buying, we could use some new avenues to procure oortstone from. Maybe give us the means to harvest it from planets like gems and whatnot?

The idea I had for portals is that they will be closed by default, and people who wish to use them pay oort to open them for a minute like normal warps but using coin but with oort as the currency. Or we could use an Oort Charger Totem to power the portal at the cost of durability from the Oort Totem, or something to this extent.

I have no issues with Oort also being sourced from an activity other than hunting. I personally think this is a good idea.

I do not like the idea of making players deposit Oort to use a portal. This would essentially lock new players out of the portal networks. I will also say forcing every player to hunt is probably not the right way to do it. And that is what this idea does. Since every player needs Oort to travel, who is really going to be willing to sell it when they need it themselves? A number of players do not like to hunt so are we essentially driving them out of the game?

Mining is probably the best possible this, if it’s on an exo the oort will be gone in the first 30 minutes for the first few weeks. Every one and there’s mom would go get oort, the big mining people and big guilds would clean the planet, everyone else would need to hunt for there oort until the big guilds are finished getting there stacks of Oort. Just imagine getting resin and petrolin when it was added but with oort. On perm worlds it would be a little better.

let oort be mine-able on any planet…just more of it on the T6s versus the T1s… the oort supply issue is getting out of hand…

The general problem is not with the portals how they work right now. The problem is more the amount of portals existing.
Just having some small portals is easily manageable and 1 hunt nets you enough for a month or more. Going full throttle and having many of them comes with effort. So the way portals work should stay as it is.
Adding another way to obtain Oort would still be good to diversify the sourcing. It just needs to be in balance with hunts to not make them useless.

Seeing how it evolved in the game there are nowadays portals everywhere. This was much less when I started over a year ago. In case portals get easier to obtain there will be even more of them somewhat keeping the requirements we have today.

I do not disagree that mining probably makes the most sense for alternative Oort.

I personally would like a new crop like the Kindling Mass. Just like with gathering versus farming. It might be faster to hunt for Oort, but if you are patient you could grow it in quantity.

I agree with you on this, I could easily farm supermassive amounts of it, no problem, even if it eats up a few hours a week

It would be great to have more ways to obtain Oort: mining, farming, along with hunts.
Oort would make a beautiful crop

quite happy with oort being one of the rarer resources so I think farming would be too easy unless they made some crazy criteria for it to grow. Having it a random spawning minable ore would be cool.

Maybe they could increase the amount of Oort dropped from the meteors, per tier, so tier 1 meteors would drop the same, tier6 meteors would drop like 3x the amount that they drop now.

I would worry hunting would get even less popular and result in less of other meteor/creature related drops. As I rely a great deal on the hunters for these since I don’t do big hunts, personally this would be a bummer. However, add some more stuff for hunters, dungeons, new creatures, bosses, etc. to balance it and I think you’re onto something!

Yes that why it needs a proper balance. Likely yield much less than hunting per hour to not affect the remaining items that come from hunting.

With the difference that the new liquids are needed for farming but once you have your farm all set up you don’t really need any more. Sure, for fertilisers, but I don’t think many people are actually using those. It takes a heck of a lot of time to fertilise all the plants for very minimal gains. I rather wait a day extra on the inorganics for example…

Oort tho is something we keep on needing and would always love more of so we could fuel even more portals, etc., so it won’t be really the same as with the liquids, people will keep picking exo planets clean as fast as they can…

I would prefer it if there was a way to get oort besides meteors but also in places where it always will be, like gems on a perm planet…

I still like my “oort crystslization” idea I had a bit ago. Where you plant/attach an oort crystal with ideal conditions to a rock and then wait over x time as it grows and expands to neighboring blocks like natural underground Crystal caves. Then you come back and harvest in a week or month. Exponentially growing as far as it can in the optimal environment and only stopping at plot limits or environmental factors that are not optimal.

If the only reason players are hunting is for the Oort then I would argue hunting needs to be changed anyway. And if Oort is available another way, it does not eliminate the need for the creature drops and large groups of creatures are still the best way to get them.

You can already mine oort, when you find oort seams

Oort farming would be interesting, it would probably be hard to get yields or crops back. But it’s still a good idea for farmer

What about exo oort planets? people could totally get ss of it if they spend the entire planet life underground. But it wont be a constant income of oort just like lucent gems
