And there’s this one, now.
Ah, maybe I should have necro’ed the old one, whoops!
I’m incredibly disappointed in you both!
Has anyone said crafting times?
Being able to build too near another player can cause problems & fights sometimes.
In-game politics/drama (which I guess are in every game & can’t be avoided).
Maybe rental planets will alleviate some of these problems, for some players
Same. Most of my friends took a look at this when I asked them to buy it and give it a try. I’ve got so much as “ If a company has a straw man of a trailer why would I trust them as a server that has control of my information”. I get it, it’s just the unfortunate way they wanted and perhaps rushed to launch. They could have stayed in beta and ran out of money. The method “which I hate” now is it’s all online so we fix it after. Which in all fairness seems like this is the complexity of it being we all are online and especially this game being Multi platform. As the Mandalorians would say “this is the way“
I don’t like that discord chat seems to have utterly killed game chat. Not that it’s the game’s problem directly, but I’d bet a ton of players who didn’t stick around long due (in part) to how depressingly empty some towns are could have been saved if the small groups they came near were chatting.
For the first few months of playing, people were chatting everywhere I went, and it was fun to pop in and chat too. That’s how Kindred Bay managed to survive after my rl friends quit.
Now I walk into a town and see 10+ red markers and shout a nice “hi/hey/sup” to the town and all I hear is birds chirping the Austin Powers theme song. It feels awkward. So there’s less and less chance I’ll say anything to anyone now. Could be a brand new player, excited to be firing up a new mmo and a bit timid to start a conversation- and I’m now like everyone else… silent unless spoken to.
Don’t know if anything can be done about people choosing to chat in discord but the silence in game has been sad. Like actually sad. It might be worse than towns being empty.
I think more people would chat in game if the chat system was not so terrible / unreliable. I often don’t even see that someone said hi to me until much later on after they have left the area.
I think I was three planets over when I think it was @ginabean shouts popped up during lunch yesterday. I was alone and looking around to see where they were at lol.
Edit: If it was you @ginabean I couldn’t find the van.
I guess there’s 2 main points that, as a newb with not even a week in, put me off somewhat.
Storage and inventory management. You’ve got loads of materials and sure, you can store them all just fine, but I don’t feel like there’s any effort put into making that management less of a pain. Think it could be more convenient.
Combat and how not fun it feels. I think it’s because enemies are far too dodgy relative to default projectile speed and range, bombs are too bouncy, and the fact that enemies can completely negate an attack with resistance which feels much more punishing than I feel it should be, especially when it doesn’t make any obvious sense. Like, why does that ice spitter negate my blast damage? There’s no obvious reason for it to do that, if anything you’d think it’d be resistant to ice.
On your second point, all elemental creatures recieve more or less damage from other elements based on their own, with all emelental creatures having 40% resist to physical (non elemental) damage, meaning they take no damage 4/10 times.
Chill (Sapphire) enemies receive 30% extra damage from Burn (Ruby) weapons, and have no resistance against Corrosive (Amethyst) or Blast (Diamond) weapons. see below:
Positive values mean they resist that element, negative values mean they take more damage from that element
Ah! Not sure why I wrote blast, it was damage from normal physical weapons. Anyway, yeah that makes a whole lot more sense now. I appreciate you posting that, gonna save it.
I’ll talk your ear off, pick me!
I know that a lot of users (me included) play on PS4 and don’t have a keyboard to use. It would take me literally minutes to type just about anything worthwhile. It’s not really Boundless’ fault, but more a common issue with controller-games.
When i see a new player i make an effort, but i also make sure to get them on discord asap so i can actually answer their questions before i turn 70
Well I have a keyboard for the PS4 but since I now also have a monitor that’s hooked up to my PC next to my normal screen I also have a wireless keyboard for my PC near me on the couch.
Now I need to juggle two keyboards, sooooo not handy!
(doesn’t help they are almost the same, I did get a different one on purpose, the PS4 one has a white backside but still I catch myself typing on the wrong keyboard!)
And I still haven’t found a nice full-sized wireless keyboard that is affordable with with you can switch devices on the fly…
Discord is a information siphon and I can’t believe so many people are trusting it. Oh well.
It’s that or communicate entirely in emotes and jumping
If you think Fork Knife is competitive you should try siege and overwatch haha
True that, I have a wireless one with receivers in both my pc and ps4 and just have to press a button to switch. Super clutch. I still hop into discord to discuss plans and sometimes when I’m drunk and don’t plan on building (totally incapable of building while I’m in voice chat).
Really I just miss seeing all the interaction in what are supposed to be bustling cities. It’s safe to assume that if 5 people are running around together and not talking, they’re in a voice chat. I guess it’s a natural effect of knowing each other for a while. Maybe game chat was so much more prevalent in the beginning because we were all just getting acquainted with each other?
