What's happening with DK Mall?

I suppose you haven’t been to the new area of DK Mall but many haven’t. I personally have given up on DK Mall and dropped all my plots there. TMMK owns all the plots now along with Ixion and The Matrix owning a few hundred plots in the old section of the mall.

I think taking some time for myself and doing my own thing is long overdue.

To go back to the OPs question several things happened to the mall. @DKPuncherello quit playing, the players that did have shops in the mall either quit or reclaimed and when a new hub was built for the mall the community didn’t really support it much more than wanting a portal to it.

I had the idea of a new hub because Roxies needed more space and she requested a new shop. She was going through a rough time and figured that was the motivation I needed to try and redo it some.

Anyways, I had asked DK and TMMK to reclaim the mall recently, but someone was generous enough to fuel the old section of the mall for a long time when DK created it… Think it still has several months left, but after that good riddance eh?

So, is the Newer, Taller, DK Mall sticking around, though? Also, is it staying called DK Mall, or renaming to The Big Tree Mall or something?

@Tmmk handles the new hub and I can help out with portals and anything else that’s needed. I am happy to help TMMK or anyone in the community where I can in the mall though.

I just think at this stage as much as I love DK and the mall he created I just need a break to focus on some personal projects.

I’d go with The Flying Tree Mall or something myself…

I wouldn’t even say good riddance, just that it’s acceptable to let it go… Like I say to everyone I like who starts burning out- stop doing the stressful ■■■■, take some manner of break from the game, and try some other stuff within the game. It’s worse to lose good people permanently than have to potentially adapt to some kind of change.

That goes for all owners of big time shops too. I’d rather not have that source of tools/blocks/pies for stretches of time, or consistently less supply, than see another friend/peer succumb to the stress.

Malls are a dying breed be it on a sovereign or on a public world. I think they were a great idea and quite an awesome to see and use. The problem I see is it is just about easier for someone to setup a shop on a sovereign and get the same results.

I truly love DK Mall and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but the community support for a mall anywhere right now is pretty lacking. I can’t count the number of times I have just found the price cheaper on a sovereign or a homeworld and just bought it from there plus it allowed me to explore and find a lot of cool places I haven’t seen before.

Good riddance was just from the overall feeling I get when I talk about DK Mall to people and the comments made about on the forums, DK Mall is this or that and I just don’t use it so good riddance is how it is taken. People just don’t feel it’s organized, or it’s outdated or too big or simply too much walking or too many ashed shops. Granted the new hub is organized much better with a central hub and whatnot very similar to other malls.

Anyways, I am not stressed at all @HOST or @DutchOfSorissi just rather let down at this point. Personal projects are just other projects that I hope help the community in the future too.

TBH I do still appreciate malls as much as ever. Or at least shopping centers. When I need to go buy something while I’m building, I need it right then. When I look on BUTT I’m very much paying attention to the world and I’ll often lock in on slightly higher prices on Tana, Gyosha, etc in hopes that the shop is in one of the malls.

We will see how the GTG one looks after a few months and more pros and/or cons of the sovereign setup manifest.

We’ve been through this before. Rainbow mall looked pretty good for a long time … but eventually was just gone… and it was pretty empty at times. It really just boils down to how the community supports malls and how big they are.

Each time a new mall opens people leave another mall and go elsewhere which is why I mentioned a more centralized community mall. The pros and cons are pretty straight forward more control on a sovereign versus less control on a homeworld… less griefing on a sov etc etc. If a shop goes stale you can boot them etc. It’s all pretty obvious.

For all the stated benefits there are just too many variables for me. Nothing against GTG or any of the members at all I know they are all decent people and Nick is a great guy I trust and I may throw up a shop there at some point who knows.

I personally think i havent seen a single mall Where i could go and say theres everything…

But thats really on the layout malls have.

Its like dang flee market without price reductions.

Im ok with people putting stuff To their sovereign but i really didnt ever like sovereigns and thats just because its not controlled by the devs (meaning fuel).

Permaplanets should have all the malls… That would be better For starting players too.

I mean the country I’m in is full of empty malls, why not boundless?

I’ve built in three malls and two “markets”. One of the malls and one of the markets closed (builder/owner quit) literally within days of me building a shop.

The other market stall lasted a couple of months before the roads around it started to vanish.

One mall with a very specific focus actually lasted for a while but eventually was abandoned for lack of interest.

And gyosha mall, which was really the first one to take off, still has the only beacons I have left in game, they still get traffic.

I never did build a shop at legendville mall, though I had a beacon there for a minute early on. I think those plots were already released when DK took over.

People will find a place to gather. I think that one of the tendencies people have that turned out to be harmful was trying to “save” things. So much space was plotted over dead builds when I started, and it was only days after the release of this universe.

It wasn’t always “DK Mall” (though he made that place into what it was, literally and figuratively) and if he moved on and it’s really evolved into something new then it’s probably fair to rename it.

As to where a mall should be, this is boundless. If it’s well managed and well publicized it can be anywhere and people will shop there. Portals make everyplace next door.

I see the trust issues with sovereigns but as far as longevity, it seems there are low single digits (3 or 4?) of malls that have even survived a year of activity here.

All right sorry I’m in a rambling mood but there’s my thoughts on the major points here I think.

I get vertigo too, though I do like the glass roads in the new DKMall hub now that I’m used to them  Plus the second layer under them is so pretty! I hope someday the shops fill up and I can have a basement connect to that road underlayer  Or I might ask for a mini shop spot closer to the hub so I can build a multi-street-level shop (I wanted to in the old area but the underlayer never made it to my part of the mall)

You might enjoy this memory… my first time in DKMall I was exploring and fell through a missing glass block in the floor. I shouted all sorts of curses and as I walked toward a structure that appeared to reach to the ground so I could grapple back up, I passed under a shop called something like FIX THE FLOOR LOLOLOLOL

I was pissed at the time but it makes me laugh in memory
