When did you swear off forging?

Must have missed it, what question? The one you told everyone not to answer?

I’ll ignore the trollbait you edited in.

Yeah, this is one reason I usually avoid it. If I’m going to spend time to play a game, fine tune my skills, level up a character, gather/make supplies, make the machines, and then still have to deal with full on RNG (& forced low effectiveness on the new mats)…nah.
I prefer: recipe + ingredients + process = X…not recipe + ingredients + process = spin the wheel & good luck. There’s no point. :woman_shrugging::unamused:

Some people like it though & do well.

Because this is the devs idea of trying to add „skill“ and „excitement“ to the game, when I feel this actually removes skill and replaces it with variance as an way to create artificial difficulty, As for the excitement part of the situation, If you like going down to the local casino and pulling the slot machine lever and letting the game tell you rather or not you won, then I guess I can see that as being exciting to some people.

Also the aforementioned “gambler’s rush” which is, in my opinion, the only reason this system retains any user support at all in its current state.

Indeed.

I swear off forging weekly. I’ll try to make 4/8/10 (Aoe/dama/dura) hammers and get mag 6-10 times than crit effect for 6-10 times in rows and say I’m done forging its piece of ■■■■ bullshit rng but than I see the price of those forged tools or weapons and realize 1k for plain tool 1-2k for forge mats for 1 tool and saving myself 8-9-10k to get irritated once a week cuz B S rng

While I’ve never ragequit the forge, things have certainly gone very very wrong before :joy: I find that the fewer possible boons a piece of gear has, the more likely it is to just roll random ones because it feels like it. Gum be damned. I will also say that forge fatigue is definitely a thing and there have been many occasions where I took a forge down below 200 vigor only to get a terrible defect and have no ability to decon it. Not to mention the times I’ve just done completely blankheaded things like double-tap vigor catalyst for no reason. In the end, I try to just keep a big stock of decon3 resin and not think too hard about it. The skip button has made it easier to just blow through attempts.

Anyway, TLDR: I feel you on the forge hate, but It hasn’t stopped me yet. I completely understand if you don’t go back to it, but it’s always cool to have more forgers around if you do.

Once I burned through all of my original hammers from october/november I stopped really forging. I’ll make a loot stick or bombs, but nothing else.

There hasn’t ever been anything challenging about the forge, its just a flowchart where you start over again and again or cheese the system to make near perfect items. Add in the time it takes to prep then wait for a tool, and it isn’t worth it unless I had many hours to play every day. So now I just purchase it all until I go broke.

There are some real opportunities with forging. Forging can be improved to be more clear, have all information in game and provide more player agency during the forging process.

I know venting and pointing out that something is ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’ or ‘frustrating’ is cathartic. Once horror stories are swapped and feeling expressed I hope we can shift to providing feedback on measurable ways we can improve the system to prevent these types of user experiences.

(I posted this in your other thread also, but I will leave my feedback thread post here too for anyone who hasn’t seen it and wants to jump on board and offer some feedback/thoughts there)

Personally, I didn’t like that movie and felt that remark was trash, so I guess it kinda explains to some extent my mixed feelings on forging. When it comes out right I feel that I did okay.

But, the huge BUT, more often I get the &^%#@&%$*&% magnetic (auto harvest) or even though I don’t have anything in that deals with glowing, the glow that I don’t want. Anywhere from 7-10 rounds later I am having to deconstruct. Repeat, have to deconstruct. Repeat, have to deconstruct.

Then I go the devs need to look at the forging and make some changes, I may have plenty of free time but many don’t and this to me would be to them and is somewhat to me a turnoff on forging. Expecially on a bad day of a lot of pain, I don’t have the patience to deal with the constant bull dodo from the auto harvest or other ones that pop up.

I could never do forging as a shop. Take my hat off to those who have the patience to continue this often and sell the tools. I know now that the high prices aren’t due to the cost of the materials, but the constant having to deconstruct and repeat the process 5 to who knows how many times before they get what they want in the tool/weapon.

Yet you felt the need to reply to it lmao. It was a joke sorry you have no understanding of humor /facepalm

I’ve ragequit forging plenty of times but I’m also a massive cheapskate and come back to make my own tools and forge mid-tier AoE for my humble shop.

Plenty of reasons I think forging sucks and is also great. What KILLS ME, though?

  1. Boon removal 2 has been broken a long time. It doesn’t always remove the boon like it says it will. If you’ve just added more points than a full bar there’s a good chance the boon points are taken out but the GD boon is still there with 0 points. Just bringing this up is raising my blood pressure to unsafe levels. (Possibly coffee-related, also)
  2. Can put AoE boon on spanners but guess what, it does nothing. Take the possibility out if it’s broken for the love of oort.
  3. Boons removed come back time after time after time after time after time after time!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Whew, I need to go for a walk.

There’s been a couple times I swore off forging for like a day. There’s kind of an ongoing joke with my friends of how statistically unlucky I am.

There was one time I accidentally set a wonky trigger gem chisel set… That is quite painful.

Apparently even if working correctly this ingredient will attempt to roll a new boon anyways.
