Why do people want private worlds?

I want a rented public world to be able to control what the planet looks like and who can access the planet. That allows me the time to build and expand without having to worry about what other players might do.

I have to disagree about this being P2W. How is this any different than a player buying plots to plot a spawning area for diamonds or other resources? I think its not.

If I decide to do a non-public private planet, then I can change the rules to lower the grind so the time I do get to play is not all spent digging rock looking for the resources I need to build. Maybe get a few friends and join a few planets in this non-public universe.

Is this bad for the game, as others have stated? My feeling is that it would probably have me playing more not less, so how is that bad for the game? I get frustrated with the behavior of some of the other players and the lack of certain color materials in the current universe. To much repetition of color and all the planets start looking alike. If I can create a planet that is not a cookie cutter of the existing ones, then that would up my interest in the game.

I know I will also be very disappointed if this is not offered. The developers have consistently mentioned it through EA and again right before launch. I think I would be as disappointed as players would be if they decided not to ever add titans to the game.

theres a fourth type planets that big early backers (oortians) can have a say in the look off it but its a basic public world with no extra perks

You can’t limits access to live public planets, it either everyone allowed “public” or it a private universe that does not interfere with live servers.

No problem to choose the colors palette and even which tier is the planet, but what happens once you stop renting? Planet vanish? In case of public rental people who build there get their build vanished as well?

The only way private planet seem to be viable is outside the live universe where you invite some friends and mostly play solo since they want to play on live with more people.

they false it be avaible for everyone from day one as any other public world
all the oortian backer perk grants is naming it and like saying i want it to have a forest our lots off rivers our make it orange resources and all the rest is completely chosen by the devs and same as any other world thats public also no early start but if dev’s wanna add that i would not mind :joy:
ow also dont know when it be launched
just wanna be ready for it all we know is that it will come one day and we just wanna make a plan for it
we would never use a planet with benefits stuff like that has no honor we wanna make it big with the resources any other player has access to
me personally would never build on rented world our with blocked plots
thats not a challenging enough for me
also the risk off owner that stops renting would not work for me lol

I’m not sure what fully sparked this comment but the dead start was only for release by backers.

Why would a head start be given on a rented world. You own it so no one can get ahead of you, etc.

When I asked about private planets 2 months ago, I was told they are still behind other feature releases. Farming is next. Based on my last call with James, they have a few ideas of what might be next but it is only being considered and not decided on as “the next thing to code” - hence why it hasn’t been formally introduced.

From my understanding the only planets that might exists that we cannot access beyond Live / Test is something the developers use during coding (if they have one). At this point there is no “developer” world that I (as an Oortian) can access or live on (per my backer perk).

I know some other people have been in conversation with the Devs about developing the release world we have for backers. I haven’t had a conversation around it. I’m not sure when or how those worlds will be released into the public environment.

Sure I can. That is what the developers have been saying. I can limit who can visit and who can build. That is the entire point of renting a planet to control access. To make sure I can plot where I want to and the areas around my builds are not torn up by other players gathering resources. Why rent if I can not limit access?

I would argue, yes the planet will vanish after a point in time. The players on the planet might get a free month to either pick up paying for the planet or to break down their builds, but if the rented planet is not being paid for then it should go away. This is the same as in any game where players might be playing on a server being provided by another player. If it goes away, it goes away. I do not think we can expect the developers to pick up the tab to run private planets. This is a case where there is a risk to building on a rented planet and might make some players choose to build on a public planet instead.

I will disagree, I have had several conversations with other players that want to play on rented planets that are part of the live universe. We have talked about the risks (someone not paying the rent) and still would like to explore this option. If we are based on a planet in the public universe we can still engage other players and go to other planets for resources, but will have a place to build undisturbed by the rest of the player base. Will this option appeal to everyone? Certainly not, but just because every player does not want to do it does not make it unviable or not worth the developers time. I know a lot of players (including myself) that do not have a great interest in Titans being added to the game. Does that mean it is not viable and not worth the developers time? No as there is a large group of players that is very interested in the challenges they think Titans will bring to the game.

  • Be able to pick absolutely anywhere to build, to find a wonderful view & know it will be untouched.
  • For my son who also plays
  • Have played with world builder and love tweaking and playing with generation variables

If you are going to have a private world that interacts with the rest of the universe, stopping others from plotting is acceptable. Stopping others from visiting is not. That gives you unique resources the rest of the community doesn’t have and is, thus, pay to win.

It also needs to have the same rules as the rest of the universe if you want it connected. Being able to customize things like drop rates is not acceptable.

Now if you want to have a fully private planet but are limited in colors by what already exists elsewhere in the game, then THAT is acceptable because players can get those colors on another world.

TBH I’ve been expecting that this is probably not going to arrive until there are other options for attaining what you want out palette/block combinations.

Which also makes me nervous. If you can just “dye” blocks and plants, why bother going to other worlds?

Because worlds are good for other things besides gathering blocks.

Says you.
You would only ever need to visit 1or 2 high tier worlds for hunting and gathering. The rest would be useless.

What one individual does isn’t a representation of what everyone else will do.

While I’ve mined mostly for Diamonds for my gems, I might decide to go mine on a different world for Emeralds or a high level metal or coal world for metal or coal.

In addition to the resources, the world might offer attractive building locations cause of the color palette and geographical terrain. It might also not be a place that many people go to so building there would be attractive cause of the lack of competition for prime real estate.

Resources and crafting materials aren’t the only reasons to go to a high level world.

I still visit worlds I have no need to gather anything on just to look around.

I wish the old worlds were still around to visit too and they’d be frozen/useless.

But if you can limits people access, you can now rent a planet to farm alone where no one can access and you get all the ressources for yourself so It would be a p2w, I would rent one planet for each gems. Then block everyone and farm myself to resell on public planets. Since im alone on my rentals world the regen will be really high and would be the most profitable mine out there.

Let me phrase is a different way. Aside from whole new blocks, like the black glass that finally spawned, is there ANYTHING we can’t get now sufficiently that would require a new world?

I’ll answer for you, no, there isn’t. The only benefit of a new world, other than new land to colonize, is new colors. Grass, trees, stone, plants…the only things that make them different is color.

Gleam prices vary from color to color because of scarcity…if you could just dye them whatever you want, all the prices would plummet to the cheapest one. Why bother gathering rare gleam when you can just make it yourself from that nasty yellow color?

I’d be okay with dying if it was one-to-one. I gather 100 black metamorphic, I use them to dye 100 sed. Then again, we already have change chisels, so I don’t see the point.

Special blocks. Rift, Blink, Dark Matter, Oort are all special blocks we don’t have right now.

Whether you hold value in going to another world or not is personally on you. This doesn’t mean we don’t need new worlds that attract players to them so they can plot them and work towards new worlds being released.

In addition to that, we have no idea what new resources we’re going to get beyond Rift, Blink, Dark Matter, and Oort. None. So to claim we don’t need new worlds is narrow-minded. Not trying to say that to have a go at ya man. It’s just a little narrow of a claim when this game is rather empty.

Also, I don’t think a lot of people are even using change chisels. If I had to pick between forging a hammer, axe, or shovel instead of a chisel, I would. It’s what will sell. Even a forged Slingbow probably would sell faster than a forged chisel.

So again, whether or not you think new worlds bring any value to the game is irrelevant. We need them anyways to have room for additional players to travel to. I wouldn’t be surprised as more game features and content get placed into the game we’d get a handful more of skill changes.

I want private planets to set up my own world with a certain tileset. I miss my Andooweem. I want to be able to control access so people don’t mess with my son while he’s playing. Turns out, not every citizen is outstanding. Maybe adjust hunger and stam drain a bit.

I also don’t particularly care about being part of the larger community or economy. There is a lot of elitism and jealousy that has become a normal part of these forums. The community, which was once the biggest draw, is currently my biggest turnoff. I don’t enjoy constant negativity in my hobbies.

I’d rather rent a planet, connect it up privately with a couple of my buddies/guildies and enjoy building and creating without all the baggage. I’m not concerned with having a ton of people all over that I just wave to and move on. Other than my guildies and the PS network, the current universe could be completely devoid of other players and it wouldn’t change my gameplay.

I want to agree with this, but there is a vital flaw: ppl can be jerks.
Just bc they can’t plot, doesn’t mean they can’t bring bombs and make your planet look like a nuke hit it. They might take a personal dislike and even do it repeatedly, or get their friends to help. Or it could just be a kid who thinks blowing up mountains and forests is fun.

Moving on from this, the color thing holds no value in the argument. If I get oxide violet on my planet and mine the heck out if it, who’s to say players A-M aren’t going to as well?
So the prices drop. Well, everything is dropping. Is there even going to be value in a market one day? Why not trade your stale cerulean for my oxide violet?
I don’t care for the market. I’m positive others agree on that. Honestly I’ve given away gleam for free for people’s projects bc I want to see it when it’s done–it was awesome. :sunglasses:

I just want my own private creative mode planet, but some of these arguments are just silly.

Who cares? It’ll all regen in four hours.

The rest of your argument is “I don’t care about game balance, I just want what I want.”
