Color-rarity advocates are using rare colored blocks like black gleam as trophies.
You are misunderstanding me.
Players that want black gleam to be exclusive are “hunter” player types. If a player says “No, I don’t think there should be any more black gleam available outside of extremely rare events”, if they feel this way in order to protect the value of their stash, those people are “hunter” player types.
If you want it to be a basic building material, I didn’t mention you in my post, and I think you should re-read the part you quoted from it, because I was specific in referring to people who want it to remain exclusive, which is distinctly not the people who think it should be freely available.
They aren’t. Please point me to the Oortian God statue created from the rarest gleam or the trophy cases of it. It doesn’t exist. People are collecting it to use it for goo and glass panes in builds. That’s why it’s so sought after.
Are you claiming that there are not people on these forums and in the game who want colors to be rare? That would nullify this whole discussion if it were true.
@Ratchel you killer you!
I don’t really like the different player labels. People’s focus of play can change daily. I also think there are many reasons people want color rarity, and I believe the same for those who don’t want it. I know my buddies here understand that color rarity is going to go away, it just depends on how long its going to take. We’ll get a better idea of how it will be impacted once sov hits.
The problem here is that people are assuming anyone that wants black gleam is in the “I love rare/exclusives” boat, when a lot of those players don’t care about any of that. It is literally a basic building block needed for builds. Those are two different groups - they aren’t one in the same.
Keep black gleam rare for all I care - allow builders some way to make black glass panes …maybe mixing dark glass and reg glass.
I am one of those horrible seekers of real trophies & achievements. This game has very few things that could be considered truly rare - black gleam is a big ole zero on the scale of 0-10 for trophies. It’s a basic building block. A basic color. This game needs special gear and actual trophies, like a few posters above have mentioned.
I agree, for me blocks and colors are not trophies to me at all.
I want to be able to place trophies over my mantle in my hunt lodge. Shields on the wall. Mount mob heads on the walls. All these sort of things. I would love to have an umbris road runner feather to put on display.
Unfortunately there are people like this, but comments like this just generically group people together in ways that aren’t always correct. No one knows all the reasons people don’t want color rarity because they haven’t asked for input from every person.
I know my reasons and I will continue to push changes that will help the game in the long run. But, as mentioned earlier, this thread clearly proves to me why Goo balance revisions is the better way to achieve the change.
I think that none of the people currently commenting on this thread are “killer” types, for what it’s worth. This group is in agreement that color availability is good.
I agree wholeheartedly with this.
If reading and thinking about the “killer” type in this discussion taught me anything, it’s that I personally believe “killers” don’t really belong in this community, and that changing mechanics that bother people who want to conquer others shouldn’t be something the devs worry about - This game is about having a beautiful world and culture, not exclusivity and profits.
The Bartle player types are really intended as tools to help you identify the general types of players you have already so that you can build features that cater to them. It can also be used to steer the type of community you want to build. If a feature appeals to a type you don’t want, don’t build (or retain) that feature.
Meh meh meh drama drama drama mwahhahahahah
No, that’s an Achiever.
I’m not an English native. I know why builder want black gleam. But builder wouldn’t mind if Serpensarindi would be changed to black gleam.
I was referring to the group of people who want black gleam to be rare. They don’t need it to build and they don’t need it as trophy. They want it to be rare so others can’t have it, or only way to expensive. It doesn’t matter if it’s griefing or playing the market - that’s their content.
Wait… what?
It’s not about making money, it’s about taking money. Destroying the status quo, because the status is… not… quo! The world is a mess and I just need to rule it. - Dr. Horrible
10% higher cap on goo kernel yield would solve rarity, as an issue, except gleam. I’m on board with gleam being tintable but again not actively pushing for it. I really do agree though with what seems to be overwhelming consensus that paint should be far more common and maintainable, and possibly even a staple item for builders. I haven’t even sprayed one block yet but if I could get enough for a build for somewhat close to the cost of that color mat, I’d be all about it.
Intriguing. Our community is known to be nice and welcoming (at least imo
), but if you really do think about how that term is defined it simply doesn’t work in Boundless. Of course some days I want to be a ‘killer’, as terrible as that sounds out of context
, but I’d bet there aren’t a lot of pure killers that stick around in the game.
Honestly even if paint remains at its current rate, the only thing that I feel would benefit paints would be the removal of the inability to paint all block types instead of only basic stones and wood blocks… … Goo kernels themselves though (The seeds) … need a rethink on their rates though.
I’m honestly not sure it is. Goo processing into the colour and quantity you might need is just another long drawn out step that needs to be taken before a builder can actually get to the meat of building in their desired colours.
What do you think would be an example of a good solution?
Goo changes isn’t feasible really either. It’d have to be a LOT of changes.
The way colors work in this game strikes me as not very “boundless” but that’s just me.
Since I don’t use paint I haven’t really judged its value, but I do think more paint to begin with would be positive. If I could get all the slate colors at a decent rate I know I’d be using some for more contrast on my current rust slate build.
Just to establish that some people feel that way^. It would just be a smaller improvement than the ability to paint everything.
No, this is why I disagree with the way the wiki article describes killers. Killers refers to combat not just pvp. Killers enjoy battle whether it’s players or it’s mobs. The idea that killers thrive on diminishing other players is wrong in my opinion. The wiki article completely misrepresents that play style interest.
These types are like the Pirate Code, they’re more like guidelines or observational descriptions of interest. Killers like to play combat. That’s the true short of it. If you like Diablo 3 and ARPGs, or Borderlands 2, or MMOs with tons of mob farming for drops, then you’re a killer type. It’s a poor choice of a category name for a system that is rather shallow and limited in the first place.
These issues are being presented as a situation with mutually exclusive solutions. I don’t think that’s true. For one, there was the brilliant suggestion of mixing different colors and items to generate new colors. There have been great suggestions about adding alternate rewards for different types of activities and achievements. Then some other great ideas about how to use those rewards in crafting with machines to create new trophies.
There are so many possibilities beyond the few simplistic solutions that we keep getting stuck on that appear to remove a sense of accomplishment for some and hinder the ability to accomplish for others.
This is very much a thinking game as much as it is a grinding game. If we can think our way through the challenges we face in game, I’m certain we, as a community, can think of ideas to offer the development team as workable solution possibilities for all.
Whether the team has the resources or those ideas fit within their vision is just another aspect to the thinking challenge.
The one thing we shouldn’t do is see this as an “us vs them” dilemma. I feel that is a completely false problem.
Yeah I am not a fan of 1 system being put in place to support another system issue. I’m pretty sure the Devs feel the same way. I’ll be honest… on my next call with James I’m going to be addressing the portal token theft issue as well as color rarity. I really want to try to understand THEIR view on color rarity and how they see it helps/hurts the game. Then see how we ease the concerns use “rarity removal” people have based on whatever options come out.
We have too many people that are being massively held back in their building ability by the lack of color diversity in this game. I don’t think it is a MAJOR issue over the other changes they have slated for this year, but I think it is worth putting some small time to balance things better since we clearly see new colors are not going to really hit the game any time soon in enough amounts to give us access to everything.
At the end of the day, the goal it to understand their view, explain our view better and allow them to choose what the best answer is. Whether that is goo, more planets, removal of rarity… I don’t care. The issue is the problem right now and they can solve it how they want.
