For creative u Need to Set up your own Server. Config etc. Playing with friends would mean you Need alot of CPU and ram and a 24/7 electro costs.
Rent a Server would mean you Make your own universe with friends in the clouds acessing via normal boundless game. where u can Maybe config to remove payment for beacon and Portals. Higher drop Rates etc. And even config ur planets in detail. Similiar things are in every other sandbox mmo. And believe me ppl will love it.
The only thing which CAN happen without hate of Community will be some kind of housing Planet.
Lets say in every permanent Planet u can find a Planet shard. With this u can create ur own housing Planet of this type. That would be pretty cool. So ppl hab Build without any fear of plotting.
Rental planets are planets attached to the live universe. They refer to any planet outside the universe as private. Honestly, very few groups are big enough to host/rent and run enough private servers to have a real vanilla experience, and will need ways to obtain additional color options via scripts or something. Its going to be a pain.
I think the best way to get new colors would be with personal planets. Hope devs let us pick colors as we wish.
If the planet follows all the rules from public universe it should be good especially if the owner can decide where people can plot.
For example let’s saywe get public black gleam planet, if it spawns with a small quantity of gleam spots some one will plot them leaving everyone out and nothing will be able to stop it.
But if some one gets a planet with black gleam and wants everyone to be part of it, the owner could stop anyone from monopolizing the gleam.
If they’re nice. Or they could plot is all up themselves, which I’m honestly not against. I mean I don’t really care about colors, especially not nearly as much as some…but I know one of their initial marketing points for the game as the ability to go out and plot things that are rare or whatnot to make a market out of it. Not sure if that’s still part of the game design or not but seeing their stance on the colors will be interesting at least.
There are definitely tiers of price points that would affect my opinions on these factors. Like I’d have more demands if they’re $40/mo than if they’re 20/mo… if it was like $5 I’d rent one even with no control.
I’ll just comment on colors:
As much as I’d love to customize colors from the whole spectrum, I agree with those saying it would be controversial to use anything but known colors. And depending on plotting rules we couldn’t necessarily compromise with a rule that anyone can mine there because with unlimited plots the owner could take the whole planet and make it impossible to mine.
We have to be able to choose colors though, IMO. I’d be cool with choosing known colors (RIP cold tan and ashen taupe ) but if we had to choose a whole pallet I’d lose a lot of interest. Realism is important to me and too many of the colors I like on known worlds are mixed with unnatural colors.
A possible compromise/semi-solution if we have to choose known colors could be for 5 or so new planets to be added at launch with a community vote on colors. Let’s finally get some grey gleam!
Also, might it be possible if future planets have colors we prefer that we’d be able to request switching one for another with a short shutdown of the planet?
If we can’t get specific with color choices on public rental planets, I hope there is at least some sort of selection…at least something like
brighter color palette
natural color palette
darker color palette
hot colors (reds, oranges, yellows)
cool colors (blues, greens, purples)
etc
For example, if I ended up with a bright pink planet, I’d probably not continue paying for it lol.
I myself dont like the ide of people choosing the colors of player owned planets and think it should be like when a new one spawns, but if there should be a way to choose it should be this.
One of the biggest selling points for me regarding unlimited plotting would be terraforming. It might take unlimited plots to be able to build a huge volcano or shape an entire mountain [range] to have a river running through and end with a huge waterfall. I reeeally want to be able to do those but there’s no chance with the amount of plots I have.
Also if you don’t have to use plots from your live-universe cache then there’s no reason to pull up your builds so we wouldn’t have a sad mass-regen event after release.
The plan was and as far as I know still is that you can also rent creative mode servers. This is the only way that PS4 players can have such a thing in the first place so it’s for sure also gonna stay that way.
Which means all of your negatives for a creative mode world goes out the window
The plan is to still be able to do such a thing with creative mode worlds…
I am going to rent a planet if it is possible to manage on the planet:
Zones with activated PVP and safe zones.
The generation of mobs (place, quantity and level).
Music in its different areas.
The rewards of the mobs.
More things like that…
The objective of the same would be to create a planet for combat content: dungeons, arenas, games to conquer the flag, etc.
Having a private planet that the only thing I can control are the colors, lands and visitor permissions does not compensate me personally, I prefer the persistent universe to build and PVE.
I agree. I think, by default, you should own all of the plots. Your monthly subscription = your “planet beacon”. Then you dole out plotting areas/permissions as needed.
Otherwise, it would get weird: I rent a planet, but my builds turn to ash because my beacon expired.
Edit to add: this way, builders could create huge things like they do in other games, without limits.
If I could fully customize the planet, meaning no cookie cutter algorithms so regions look different . Then I might try to allocate funds to hosting my own. As that would be the ultimate creation in boundless. Building your own planet from the ground up, based on server rules.
But say only 1 region is high peaks, and 4 are canyons, but all different weather biomes. That would be really cool.
But as the normal planets are, it’s kinda not as cool, because it’s like based on math or something to gen the rigidness of the biomes.
I probably dont make sense. I’m not sure how to explain it.
Edit: this would allow me to make ruins in one zone; and various regions that are not replicated elsewhere on the planet, I think is what I’m trying to say
Normal plotting rules still apply, only in creative one could change such things where it’s also not necessary since you can give yourself cheat loafs and get oodles of cubits and thus endless plots…
No idea what they are planning with the initial release for rental planets, but I do feel that if they allow a certain freedom with choosing colours that they will give you certain limits for which colours you can choose. What I mean is what I mentioned earlier, Lush planets need to look earth like for the most part, T6 Chill planets have a certain range of colour palette choices to pick from, etc.
I don’t think they have to limit it to colours that already exist on permanent planets. If they are afraid of me getting a planet with new colours and then block others I’m sure someone else will then come around and rent a world with the same colour palette and let everyone farm/mine to their heart’s content. I do not see an issue with this.
But I do believe we need to keep our expectations in check and that we will have to adhere to the palette limitation rules they already have in place for their random generated worlds…
I’ll keep my expectations in check but I will not allow you to take my daydreams away from me!
If there’s an option to make it fully creative where I can use the cheat menu for blocks and cheat pies AND have it accessible from the live universe, at the obvious cost of being able to bring anything with me, I’ll be fully behind it and can almost guarantee right now that I’d get at least one planet.
Ideally I want 2 small planets to myself. One would be a Viking-era Scandinavian theme and one just a massive post-modern city.
Imagine what creative would do for the game overall… the screenshots and videos we’d get out of it. I’m an infamously slow builder but I blame that largely on limited mats and laziness. Cheat menu would change everything.
