Thus, going back to the comment @Xaldafax made, and your accusation that it is condescending, it’s easy to see it is not. He’s trying to get people to chill out, and recognizes that the intensity of some posters discourages other posters. He’s not trying to insult anyone, but certain people, yourself included, have repeatedly been rather hostile.
Some people are fiercely opposed to a wipe, that’s fine. It’s been said a wipe isn’t in the cards right now. But you can be opposed to something and still calmly talk about it. That isn’t happening right now.
Because it seems peoples emotions are broiling up again and abandoning civil discourse, I’d like to reiterate the statement above by james. Go back and read it in its entirety, but let the part I quoted stick with you. That’s the most important part.

Posts calling for the closure of a thread that dont come from the OP themselves should be, in my opinion, deleted and in the case of repeated offence, temp banned. That behavior is not conducive to civil conversation and is unacceptable.

I don’t feel that @Evergreen is trying to promote a socialist society. I think the underlying concern is at some level the “existing player base” will cause problems with “new players” that come in and feel they cannot compete. A wipe evens the field.
There are posts during release where people complained that Backers got an edge over new people. Those feelings do still show up in the game. Why try to build a hub when ULT owns the Universe… etc etc.
I don’t feel a wipe solves this concern but it certainly makes people feel better about playing the game because everyone is on the same field.
edit: I want to note that we have an obviously “player growth” problem. Evidence that people complained about “some having head starts” can play into a small part of the reason people don’t join. This game is VERY MMO so you require people. It is hard to play when others have so much more things than you do as a beginner.
Backers PAID dearly for that privilege … if a wipe were to happen the backers would get a Headstart period AGAIN as it is something promised from the Developers.
Also remember the backers get a BONUS on plot numbers… they would retain that and all else they were promised…
All players will also start with ALL their Alts, and ALL the plots they purchased with Cubits…
So those advantages will be Right there at the starting gate under your “wipe”
Trying to argue with me on a point by point basis isn’t really going to get us anywhere. Please just see the general context I was trying to convey in response to your socialist statement.
We don’t know what would and would not exist and it isn’t helpful to discuss it. We can’t even have people talk decently again.
I’m not trying to take something from the community… I was just trying to have a conversation with the community. If some of the community cannot do that then I will just move on back to the people that are willing to.
What that post right there that you quoted says is it would take out the ill-gotten gains of a broken system (see the insane power of 3x3 strip mining tools), bring in tested exo planets where the devs have been testing how to slow down the rate of material gathering by players as new permanent planets.
I specifically then state I don’t see how else you do this without a wipe. So is there a way to do it without a wipe? This is one problem we can work together to solve. If you do not think it’s a problem to solve then there is no response that ever needed to be made.
The old model of plot protection was determined on a basis of area, not plots. This perk was changed when plots were introduced to grant a %bonus to plots earned or bought.
Ill Gotten Gains? People obtain materials within the game mechanics are NOT ill Gotten gains… it is a Righteous gain. The players did not break any game mechanics or parts of the TOS …
I get the perception that can be created when someone is willing to talk about a subject that another person feels is worthless. Unfortunately because the person having that perception is not all knowing there is a chance it is wrong.
In these two points you miss the point with where myself and Evergreen and a few others are going.
At this point the wipe conversation is a “thought experiment” to help prove what content is missing that will allow us to grow and retain players.
In regards to “sunk cost” those that stay don’t likely have the attachment to those things and instead enjoy building and playing for the sake of building and playing. They don’t link time to money. So a wipe achieves nothing but - oh look… blank landscape… what can I do?
