How would backers feel about a ‘fan package’ for current players:

TBH, when I saw someone selling a wayfarer totem, and I read the description, I was like “oh, that’s nice, a recipe for an item that you unlock after you’ve been playing the game for long enough”, so I was looking forward to having several months of /played to get that recipe.

Then I found out it was a backer thing, and I was kinda sad.
Had I known about Boundless when it was in crowd-founding, I probably would’ve paid for some high tier.
But until someone told me about it a few months ago, I had never heard of it. Consider this : most developers are making games through crowd-founding or Steam early-access or other stuff. You can’t be aware of all of them.

There are other games where the devs put in things that “you had to be there to get them” (I’m thinking of World of Warcraft right now, which has had expansion-specific content that gets disabled once the next expansion is released). These things, I have them or I have experienced them. And I feel really bad for those who don’t have them, for those who will never be able to experience these things outside of someone’s Youtube video. I personally don’t like the elitist aspect of things. It doesn’t make me feel good, and even if it did, It’d be wrong. The elitist culture is not something you wanna cultivate.
Plus, I’d wadger that many of the original backers may not be playing anymore.

I tend to think that in a game, all the digital stuff should be made available to everybody, for the right price.

Buying a backer package was something that I’d carefully saved up for and made dubious financial decisions about at the time. I had things which should have been more important, but I weighed that against the fact that Boundless backer purchases were time sensitive. I’d be pretty disappointed/frustrated if early backer rewards became available now.

I’d be happy if there were additional packages with different content that ‘anyone’ could buy, but it really should be things that are new / different (cosmetics, totally new items, buffs that affect new areas of the game (reduced crop growth time?)). As has already been mentioned, the more ‘Plot bonus’ type affects we can accumulate, the more it diminishes existing backer bonuses. If they were to sell a fun package with 100% plot bonus and comparing to Oortian (for ease of maths):

Basic Player = 100% plots & Basic Oortian (+ 200%) = 300% plots. Oortian has 3 x more plots.
Fun Player (+ 100%) = 200% plots & Fun Oortian (+ 100% + 200%) = 400% plots. Oortian now only has 2 x more plots.

To keep backers happy, I’d suggest the backer bonus becomes a separate multiplier that takes effect after other bonuses apply, so that Backers don’t feel like they’ve been short changed. But if you do that, you’re back in the position that non-backers are envious of something they don’t / can’t have. There is no win here.

As a counter point - If this is less about ‘what’ you get, and more about showing appreciation, isn’t Gleam Club basically designed to be the thing you spend money on to show your appreciation to Wonderstruck? If this is more about showing your appreciation and maybe getting a few perks (like free re-tints, unlimited fuel beacons etc etc), put your money into that? If that’s not appealing (as in, you want real bonuses for your ‘appreciation’ money), perhaps a better course of action would be to open a dialog with Wonderstruck about the contents of Gleam club, or how that works?

Remember those “elitists” made it possible for the entitlists to play this wonderful game :sunglasses:
And this topic is about a fun package. For me plots should not be included in a fun package.

What about a yearly anniversary present?
Some games like Guild Wars give you a present for every year you’re playing.
I think it’s a nice way for say thank you to your player base.

I’m okay with everything generating more hype about the game.
I don’t mind giving away my “privileges” since we already got enough time to enjoy them.
At this point anything goes to get more players involved into the game, imo this is a win-win situation at very cheap price. :hugs:

I mean, generating more revenue for a game we love benefits everyone. Backers get much more than just plots. I don’t wanna say it’s unfair but I sure would love to benefit from higher plot count than deluxe version gives me :+1:

I don’t mind but first the promised planets before anything else

You’re definitely right. But I’m still here!!! And I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon!!! (Except to work)

It scares me when you edit your post then decide not to change it and that box pops up:.

“Are you sure you want to abandon your post?”

Wait, what? Am I going to get shot if I abandon my post? Court martialed? I didn’t abandon my post in Satans colostomy bag in 2005, better not do it now! So Ill finish writing this… Haha

Maybe they could tier gleam club. Have the basic gleam club which we have now and offer tiers that would allow for some additional items? To keep this from being a buy for a month maybe you have to buy the higher tier for a year and in exchange you get access to x amount of cubits or a discount on buying cubits or a set of cosmetic items, or something I cannot think of this early n the morning.

As an early backer that invested a decent amount in the game, I am not opposed to additional packages but would want more discussion on the content and how it might or might not devalue what we already purchased. I know if it was plots they could just add it to what the early backers got and I would probably be ok with that. If it was plots and other items, maybe the early backers could buy it for a reduced price?

Since it keeps getting repeated, I want to reiterate again this isn’t about getting what backers got.

It’s not about being envious. It’s not about being entitled.

I’ve mentioned before having a tiered gleam club package and I think that would be a cool idea too.

This is about putting something together for current players to invest heavily in to the game and create more cash revenue. A dialogue has been created with James more than once from what I have read and this was the next point in that dialogue.

If at the end of the day thee shop remains the same wonderstruck is still getting my money for plots. Several of us wanted to be able to give more money and it not just be about plots though. If rental planets come out I’m sure that’s where we will dump our cash as well. Until/if that day comes we just thought it’d be cool to have something like every other cash shop game has.

There’s been a lot of cool ideas discussed and I want to thank everyone who contributed in that manner.

Having able to get higher plot gain bonuses for non backers sounds kind of fair with some packets, but I think master level 100% plot gains or higher shouldn’t be possible to get just by buying perk from shop. It could be more granted manually to players who have good reputation and have done some kind of community project, for me good example would be Gyosha Mall.

I hope game don’t introduce more exclusive item recipes that would require real money. Wayfarer totem is really nice builder tool and fists are nice weapons, I would like to see both in more advanced forms and available for all, just those current ones could have exclusive model, particle effects and/or skin.

My opinion about able to others get those perks (up to wayfarer, that is my status) should be possible to obtain by anyone someway. Plot gain bonus (25%) isn’t yet too high that could cause plot conflicts like on those more limited packets that were available before launch.

I do not think manually awarding plots bonuses for individual players is a good idea. Who decides if what they did really benefited the community? You have players that might do something and then leave the game for an extended period. Should their bonus be removed? If the player turns around and deletes a build that was the reason they got the bonus should they be able to keep the bonus? Does anyone that runs a portal network deserve the bonus? If I do not buy from any shops does the person running a mall deserve a bonus? I think when you get into qualitative measurements then you will end up with a real mess. This is always the problem with trying to reward players based on what other players think. I think this is especially bad if you reward players with something that other players have paid for.

It made me go

Because my investment was much greater.

And

That is an opinion, not a fact. It has much to do with how you were conditioned. It is not the conversation to have on this thread but I would love to have it. It boils down to a socialism versus capitalism worldview. I do thoroughly disagree with you though.

I dont think this is needed as there is alrdy Deluxe edition that gives pretty much same as it was for adventurer? buyers so i think there alrdy is “Fan pack”

I would like to support the devs I the game but I don’t have the hundreds that others have. Wish I could. What I would like to have more than plots would be the ability to get such things as cubits, which I could buy as well, but it just seems a way of going okay, here is my thank you for a fun game, use this to continue making a great game.

If I gave a gift of say $50 and they said here is a choice of body paint, some cosmetic items such as the beards or other pick which package you want that would be nice.

I didn’t know about the game. Don’t know when I joined steam, but at the time wasn’t into backing a game as I was still new to gaming and had read too many stories of fake devs using the Kickstarter to rip players off.

I have backed one game, with a small amount and feel I got my money’s worth from that contribution. If I had backed BL I wouldn’t mind others getting what I got if the devs asked if it was okay and went with what the majority wanted,. I do think it was unfair to give the iron fist and the gold fist when I bought the deluxe version, at least the gold fist should have been given to the backers since it was added to the deluxe, that wasn’t fair to those who backed the game.

So, for me plots isn’t that great of a thing, cubits or a gift of package for certain items for a set amount that doesn’t have to match what my contribution would be would be okay with me, my donation would be to help the devs with the game, not to get freebies.

Hope I am making sense, still running on empty. Second pain management didn’t help, in fact was a step back, now back to original pain levels so little sleep, more pain and harder to think. This isn’t a whine, just want others to know this is why sometimes I can type weird and come across sound dumb.

I certainly would be on board with a tiered GC offering but would want a good discussion on the features.

Additionally, I would expect that it did not include stuff that diminished or affected backer bonuses. So I would fight against discounted cubit rates and stuff because of cubits being linked to plots.

I think you hit the points correct that it is a big discussion between early things and how they are affected versus brand new things that all maybe could get, etc.

Another point to consider was that each tier included stuff from the other tier. So if we did offer new lower tier stuff we should see how that might become part of the other tiers because originally it would have been…

The issue is that most things that are being brought up are not new. They are trying to take stuff from backers like plot bonuses. There are some good new ideas, though. So maybe we focus on those but we still need to consider how it affects backer perks especially since backer perks were tiered and higher ones included things from lower ones. They were not unique. So this is about adding another unique thing which is of concern to many backers especially since we already had issues when GC came into being and how things like “auto-fuel” broke components in how we expected the game to be played and was designed.

If people want to give money buy cubits or GC. If we want another package, then I think everyone is willing to discuss it but will fight back hard if it includes anything that devalues or breaks our original agreements and things the backers did to support a non-released game.

Just my opinion here, it think the game should be free to play with some supporter packs. You play the game, you like it then you can buy a supporter pack that would you give you some advantage, like cubits bonus, skins etc. (pretty much like buying the game)

Could even had some XP/Cubit Limited time booster but i think this is not what the community liked the most.

Then you keep the GC if you want to be “lazy” about fueling beacons and keep supporting the game.

it would bring more flow of new players and better visibility which is another subject.

I agree basically. I was not thrilled that a new item was created that was better than the ones given to early backers. I am still not happy that each tier of backer did not get their own item.

Things were very rushed in the area of items, etc. I get why, but I’m still not happy about it.

I respect how you feel, I may not agree in the aspect of it some of it shouldn’t be offered, but do understand.

What I am still upset over is my getting the gold fist when I bought the deluxe and it wasn’t given to the early backers. Shame on the devs for that. All early backers should have been given that, especially since I received the iron fist (Explorer’s fist) also. Not a nice thing to do to the early backers.

Since think the devs are doing a good job, human nature to make mistakes and goofs. I just get impatient on the long waits for the new content, such as the farming, but it is more complex than what I expected so understand.

I think a fun package of a choice of specific items would be a good thing. since the Explorer’s fist was given out in the deluxe package, maybe that would be okay. But that is something the early backers need to agree to.

Yeah I get it and felt basically the same way.

I don’t doubt that James and the whole team is not at all thrilled how EA came to be and some of the decisions made and the rush to release certain things. I think that made a lot of us just not feel things were “right.” I also know that when they first did the backer packages, they had one set of expectations of the game versus where we were when the game was nearing release. Things changed but they were locked into decisions made SO LONG ago in the games development.

So for me, I have tried to be fair and not push about having most of my backer perks not being delivered. I see the bigger context of the game and how they need to put their efforts where it makes sense.

I do want to support people who want to support the game. I just think we need to find the right solutions for it and think it should be a new area of ideas and not related or close to the existing backer, cubit purchase, GC, or delux perks. This way it doesn’t infringe on anyone’s investment to date or devalues it.
