Machines, RedStone and difficult Stuff

Maybe we can get some functions or systems like The Redstone connections like in Minecraft

or Machines like in Tekkit lite mod for Minecraft
for example the Quary or the ME system

i realy liked that kind of mods for Minecraft
so i would like to see something Similar. Not as a Mod but as fixed component of the game, as
A possibility to play the game

I would love to see machines such as the quarry and macerators/pulverizers

yes, or the forcefields of ARS

Generally I would say that automation of of resource gathering is a bad idea, as that slowly turns the economy into favoring those who joined the game early instead of favoring those who put most work into the game.

Automatons are always awesome, but care has to be taken not to undermine large parts of the economy as @Thorbjorn42gbf mentioned. Now then, perhaps a mining specialist could learn ways to more efficiently gather resources or operate mining machinery, but a device that does the miners job for them just makes the entire role obsolete.

Just developing this idea a little further in my head, it would be neat if craftsmen could create a mobile mining machine like a giant drill that only mining specialist could operate. This would help generate codependency between craftsmen and gatherers.

there are many games which has machines like quarys and its not OPed
or ā€œautomatedā€ as you think.
they have to find fuel for it and many expensive materials to build it.
like in ā€œRustā€. in this game its essential to have a quary. but not working independently

we also have a regenerating World so it would never be ā€œdestroyedā€

but a Quary is just an example for machines that i liked in minecraft

i generaly meant ā€œpuzzleā€-like difficult systems
especialy systems like the ME-Storage system or The GalactiCraft systems
or my most favorited Tinkers Construct

Iā€™m just looking for challenging Crafting Content.

Rust is based largely around resources and Fuel being ā€˜veryā€™ scarce though and the quarry is less a quarry and more a machine that converts fuel into other things, as you do not mine remove the landscape, which means that you do not need to balance it with normal player mining-speed of the terrain.

For interesting mechanics though, there are going to be different materials with different properties and weapons and tools can be enhanced with other properties as well so that at least will be interesting, I donā€™t know if the team is going to expand on the machine and energy system but those could become pretty puzzle like in time too.

Also crafting was at least at some point planned to have some efficiency scaling mini game so they try to look at ways to make it a bit more than ā€œplop stuff into a machineā€ Crafting: Workbench GUI

Thatā€™s good but not what Iā€™m looking for. It is not the quary itself. what I mean is a logic function. Starting simple with
1 = on 0 = off
1 and 1 = on if not 1 = off
For example the Redstone in Minecraft

Or logic systems with channel and storaging,
Wireless transmitting of items and a Cable wiring connection stuff like ME-Systems of Applied Energistics mod for Minecraft.

And the person who is able to build this stuff
Should be able to simplify his crafting or mining or storaging with that. That means it must be very expensive, difficult and maybe just in teamwork earnable

I hope now you understand what I mean
Sry Iā€™m not nativ English speaking

Will logic circuits eventually be integrated?

Not likely in the Redstone sense.

in which way then?
I would like to create dungeons, puzzles and quests for other playersā€¦

Itā€™s been a long time since this has really been a conversation so itā€™s likely stuff has changed, but my understanding of the design goals is that it should be simple to use and easy to build. Integrated circuits and single props with pre-set functions most likely. So, unlike minecraft where a logic gate is made with lines of Redstone dust, flipping polarity torches, signal strength, pistons, slime blocks, etc, you would simply activate a machine that does all of those things itself.

In this regard, I think that really should not add the highly automated acquisition way, direct hollowing out an entire chunk down to bedrock will make resource production becomes meaningless.

But integrating the machineā€™s network is a very interesting thing.
My favorite mods for Minecraft is the various ā€œCrafting Automationā€, I just need to post a demand command in the control panel, what things I need will be craft automate, no matter need how many intermediate.

I would love to have some sort of automated mining. Thaumcraft (Feed the Beast mod from Minecraft) had a magical drill that would bore something like a 3 blocks high and 3 blocks wide tunnel. If memory serves me correctly you could even tell it how far to tunnel. So it could be used not just for resource gathering but digging out tunnels for a project.

Automated resource gathering can be an issue but with people building things out of gold blocks, machined iron, gem blocks, ect. I donā€™t really see it being much of an issue with the economy. The thing in Minecraft was there never really was any meaningful economy on any server you played on. Currency was easy to come by and resources were just as easy. In fact, depending on the mod you used determined how fast youā€™d acquire more resources would sky rocket further into easy mode.

I really donā€™t see it being that big of an issue when the game is feature complete and people can rent worlds to build their own projects on.

Economically, if the supply is extremely high and the demand is really low or isnā€™t able to catch up to the supply, it just means stuff is going to be dirt cheap for a while. Smart players arenā€™t going to dump all their stuff in their shops at once and just maintain a warehouse full of materials to stock their shop stands with when they get low.

Thereā€™s only so much coin in the game after all.

Or we could have an extremely end game oort mining machine which uses portals to undiscovered worlds to mine stuff, so as not to destroy the terrain or the actual worlds

But thatā€™s what the Oortians of old didā€¦ ooops, Iā€™ve said too muchā€¦

I donā€™t think automated gathering is going to be that big of a deal. Coin is limited in the game and automated mining not giving out experience points would be a nice way to balance it. It costing lots of Gems, Oort Stone, Sparks, Power, etc. are other ways to balance it out. It doesnā€™t need to be some massive 10x10x10 plot sized mining operation. It can be as much as mining 3x3x3 blocks worth of material.

If itā€™s even being considered by the dev team at all, it would need to be an expensive thing to do.

I still donā€™t believe it will be that big of an issue when thereā€™s always going to be a limited amount of Coin at any given time.

Although I can settle for Redstone machinery type of stuff. I want to make my hidden doors already. ahhahaha

From a technical standpoint, auto-mining is a considerable stress on the servers. Especially if you get a few dozen people on a planet setting up several auto-mining farms at once.

Also, based on the fact that bombs donā€™t drop the blocks they break, it would appear that the devā€™s only want miners mining resources manually, not with machines.

Perhaps I just want it cause I am a little lazy now days with how little time I have to go out on large mining runs.

I still want Oort Stone version of Redstone though. I think a lot of us do. I also want to be able to make my own dungeons for once as well. I think those things would make me want to find more of my free time actually playing the game.
