With all the random leaving threads I figured I’d point out the fact that I have seen a number of new players lately. I have run through TNT a few times lately and have seen and spoken to some new players, around 15 people to be exact. I asked a few of them some questions on the game and stuff.
Over half of them had never heard of the game until recently, many of them had former Minecraft/sandbox experience and a number of them said their first initial foray into Boundless has been awesome but a bit daunting. I asked about what was daunting and most of the answers were the learning curve. I also asked if they would be continuing to play and they all said yes.
So while PS has left and numerous other folks want to get all dramatic about the leaving the game, I’d like to throw out there that the game gets new people all the time, there is just little mention of it.
I have been helping DK Mall out where I can and have noticed a lot of stores leaving and plots being reclaimed. I can assume it is from people leaving, but while it saddens me to see a lot of plots empty I do wind up seeing a lot of new stores pop up from time to time.
My whole point is, even though you see a lot of people leaving… you seldom see any mention of new players. So if you see any new players don’t hestitate to try and help them out where you can.
I also wanted to point out that "if you listen to some, we should feel like “eh, no big deal, people come, people go” I feel there is nothing any of us can do but either deal with the fact people come and go and keep playing the game if we enjoy it, or quit the game and move on. I suppose the other option is to quit playing and hang around on the forums pointing out all the negatives.
May I add I have met a couple of people who are new or were a bit ago
Here is a list
Darkless void/ @DarkestVoid
Solarian
Arcpup
Radcat @GravityThatBinds
And I think l3phoenix @HOST I’m not sure can u confirm or deny it I’m mainly talking new in sense of progress and if they’ve started playing this year
And I mean u could consider me new I started truly playing around march
I wouldn’t consider @Redlotus new because of his progress
I’ve run into a couple new players on Raxxa recently as well. I’m not very good at engaging with them, though. I do what I can, but I’m usually just awkward.
I think this is the bit that is kind of sad. If there was more of a push to advertise the game, communicate with the gaming press, do Dev livestreams, etc, the game could really take off.
One good community manager with a barrow full of enthusiasm would do wonders for the game, I’m certain.
People do come and go in any game sadly. I have lost many a friend in many games and the problem has never been the fact people leave, the problem usually lies in the fact people go at a faster rate than people coming.
That is the worrisome part for me.
“New” is really subjective here… I started in Jan of this year but I by no means consider myself new. Mainly in the sense that when I play a game I go all in … I put in an insane amount of hours in 6 months… I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I have put in over 2000 hours into the game in that time, but I do love the game that much.
I do think this game needs a better mid game and forging to be less horrible maybe make the drops better for the animals or change the mats required or fix the (censored) rng
On a side note me probably 1.2k maybe even 1.5k
@Fuzzybear1919 This isn’t going to be a popular opinion but I like forging. It’s challenging enough with the RNG to make it feel as though you accomplished something when you actually achieve a T6-T7 with all the boons you wanted.
That being said, I think at times I spend a crazy amount of coin on materials to forge a few items and the return on investment is pretty low. Where I feel I can make the most money is more on the “useful” tool side such as liquid breakers and loot sticks etc.
Well that first initial meeting is always awkward… I mean wtf do you really say … and who knows if you saying “hi” is ever going to be reciprocated. I know that since so many, including myself, have found just getting started daunting why not see if someone needs help. Hell if anything, I’ll just be ignored, but I know I made the attempt to help.
What really “IRKS” me … is the chat … the whole global chat makes a new person feel even more isolated. When I was new I chose Angel I, warped in saw some chat… I said something in it and just felt ignored … little did I know there was this horrendous lag time between messages. There should be a world chat that you can hide/turn off/filter whatever so that we can communicate across the game without an issue. That little fix there alone could make the game so much better for new players.
Back on topic, it’s just great to see new players and even better to see them in the chat. One mentioned where they were located I made an attempt to go find them and see if they needed anything.
That was the second time today this message from 2 weeks ago is being quoted and I feel summoned by mail on this forum where, unless I’m wrong, NOTHING has changed since last we spoke.
SO. Hooooooow can I help you? < cocks shotgun >
edit : took me 30+ minutes to remember where the “Hooooow can I help you” quote I had in mind came from. I kept looking among TFS’ Cell quotes before remembering the same voice actor also did TFS’ Alucard.
No but all jokes aside… I came back To the game cause i didnt find any other game. I appreciate @the-moebius doing appreciation thread For me and i check that time To time… Never knew some People rly felt that way about me as i see myself as just a player.
Anyways New players are always welcome… Them not being mentioned here is more likely cause they are not here At forums.
@anon34275467 I didn’t mean to just call you out or single you out it was just the first thread out of many that recently caught my eye. I could have mentioned or pointed out any number of posts about leaving or low player count.
The problem, in my opinion, is that it isn’t really an accomplishment of skill but of persistence. If this was something that could be overcome with skillful play, I could totally get on board, but as it is you just know a formula and apply it over and over until it comes out right. There is some skill in knowing when to bail and when to keep going, and knowing what ingredients to use (I still need to learn some more efficient methods), but the real challenge is still rolling enough times.
I wouldn’t mind a little skill minigame to steer the RNG.
I mean, unless there is something major I don’t know about forging. I still roughly follow the “Methodology of Forging Everything” guide.
Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to RedLotus, oops.
No need to apologize. I simply wanna make clear that I’ve been told many times that we (the “complainers”) should simply lay off the forum for a while, because what we had to say has been said, at least until the devs FINALLY finish that god damn update. I think this should apply to all the people arguing about the state of the game.
Also don’t say my name 3 times in front of a mirror or I’m coming for you.
Can I just say Gob 3 times… its way too long of a name.
I have called people “complainers” but I don’t think it’s unwarranted complaints most of the time. My only qualm with it is mainly the focus on complete negativity versus seeing both sides, which I am sure many people see and even acknowledge at times.
I was just pointing out that while I may see more people leaving or at least shops just disappearing from a mall I was happy to run into several new players … I have plenty of complaints …much like the “chat” mention I had earlier, one which I will mention a few more times as it seems to be a real killer for newer players at times. Asking for help in a global chat that most other games have without any lag time at all is just … poor design.
