POLL: Max mining - what is your average gem/hr?

I want to share some experiences.

That is a roughly 30-block tunnel of zero (0) resources. All stone, gravel, and sand.
The 30-block streak came to an end with this:

Well, ok, let’s try to peek around the edges. I poked boreholes spaced 2 blocks apart along the edges, as deep as I could see/reach (~8 blocks)

This one was empty and the previous one yielded a few nodes of copper.

And yet?
When the going is good, it’s good.

I am aware that random distribution is at play here, but it feels a little too extreme at the moment. If I hadn’t had 3x3 diamond hammer, max power+mining stats, and a mega strength brew? I could have easily wasted a ton of time carving out branch tunnels in the totally dry area and walked out with nothing.

Something feels weird and wrong about this.

Yeah i think Shedu tier is the easiest planet for gems/h.

Yeah you walked away with more stone hurray, who here agrees, that higher tier and more dangerous world’s should not hold any one level tier materials? Copper, iron, level one ores of any kind such as coal, fossils or tech?

Does anyone have a gem location wiki? With height locations? I can’t seem to find topaz with my atlas.

This thread should help you a ton.

ya i got past the diamond wall just about, finding the other gems in nigh impossible

Diamonds and sapphire were easy enough for me, was getting about 100/hr using bombs and fists. Rubies on the other hand has been a bit of a slog. Started out ok with about 75 the first hour and the next 125 took the rest of one evening and the next. Still going to map Alcyon more tonight and try to find a good spot.

I read on another thread about the world regeneration possibly not populating an area with resources that has been previously mined until a certain point. Not sure if that’s how it works but one area I was at which showed light blue on the atlas had some tell-tale signs of previous mining that had regenerated some but I mostly found basic stone and few resources.

Wow, I’m definitely missing out on something having not used a forged tool yet.

Yea if you find the right spot youre missing out on a lot

Today mining for Tpoaz I had a dmaage and durability hammer and I hit over 1000 gems with one persistent pie.

I know that you guys won’t believe it, wish I recorded that however I have been hitting 4-600+ consistently after one pie since the bomb.mining nerf.

I had never tried bomb mining topaz not sure the yields but never seen any numbers close to that.

Jesus, could you breakdown what your hammer and stats are? Do you follow the atlas? Strip mine layers above and below? Straight line mine shafts? This is crazy, how on earth you get 1k in 40 minutes

I thought i did good today at 140 topaz in an hr lol

@Jiivita as always your the man. Thanx so much for all your videos. Pre-alpha and beyond.

Also I appreciate that you have so much room for the complaining side of things, but you bite your tongue a lot, and just stick to the facts. That in turn creates a professional product. You are very good about not voicing emotional rants at all, and just giving the community great advice on how to accomplish different problems.

Thank You.

I will give personal experience for gold, not a wiki

Magic number for all t3-5 planets so far is Alt 19. Obviously no gems on lower tier, but some Gold.

I drop to 18 and mine above 2 blocks. Then after after I make a tunnel, I will drop 2 blocks and repeat another tunnel under that one.

On t5 and t6 planets I am finding more gems if I hit the mantle and tunnel in. I can find many scraps sloppy miners leave behind on the mantle. But Alt 15-16 seems to be more magic hour on t6.

Also the cross effect is the worst aoe imo for mining important things. Its great for general rock harvesting though on lower planets. All aoe tools with low damage are great Lamblis and lower planets. They are a waste on higher tier planets if your hitting every block 12 times before they break. Better to just use iron until you can afford higher tier hammers. I rather have a one adjacent below aoe than a cross any day. cleaner tunnel prospecting.

Also You may not make any more money than a iron hammer, because cheap iron hammers break rocks and diamonds just as much, just 20 times slower. So on one hand you have a price per hour, and the other hand a price per hammer. Either way it’s a cost.

This works great when there hasn’t been 50 people before me. The problem is there are more miners than planets right now. In which no method works other than trying to be the first in a untouched area.
