Remove footfall to balance out the playing field

Hmm. I primarily use the portals to check out the surrounding shops though. So for me you do create the value.

One option that I can think of would be to have beacons, plots and footfall tied to the account, not the character. It wouldn’t eliminate zero-effort footfall, but it would solve the more extreme abuse cases if all adjacent plots that belong to the same account would get footfall only once.

Edit: I don’t know if such a change is really needed, and personally I don’t care either way, but I think those are the cases that most people that complain about footfall have an issue with. Much more than actual services, like portal hubs, shops and cool-looking building projects, at any rate.

First I tried to remove the ā€œyou are right and you are wrong statementā€. That was unnecessary and I do apologize.

I can see your point on the portal hub is a start but other things around a hub can increase traffic to the hub.

Money leaves the game as taxes so dont you think footfall counterbalances this?

If the build is good enough, people will come from far and wide to see it.

Maybe once. . but without shops or hubs do you get repeat visitors?

I don’t think great builds, shops and hubs are mutually exclusive. If you build a landmark, people will flock to it, not just to see it, but to build near it. Before long it’s a tourist attraction of a larger settlement.

I think it depends on the build, but probably less so than the more functional ones.
To use an example from the early access servers, I know I’ve taken a lot of new players to see Steam City and a few other landmarks and show 'em how cool it was and such.

So I suppose this would keep going in a bit of a cycle, one would hope. But I’m not a fancy builder so that’s just my thoughts from the perspective of a sightseer. I’m sure other people would be better suited to offer their opinions from the builder side of things.

It also helped that it was designed in such a way as to be fun to explore, rather than just look at, so that too should factor in I think.

Oh, and Elop Portas
I’ve toured it like two or three times with a guide, and then a few more times as the guide. :stuck_out_tongue:

First of all, footfall allows for probably the most important aspect of the game, Portal hubs. If not for foot fall, there wouldn’t be the portal hubs because they use that coin to keep them operating. I don’t know about you, but I use the portal hubs constantly.

Second, I was not an early backer, and I came into the game just a few weeks ago. I have just started to get a decent footfall amount for my builds and it is helping me to afford power for my machines. It feels really good building something that people want/need, and getting payed for it.

I think you should quit whining that other people are making money. Get creative, and start making something people want or need to use.

Damn millenials!

Hey guys new player here , question, if you have 3 characters, and each have beacon and I understand the whole variable on plot level prestige, do all 3 beacons collect from one visitor or is it one person counts on all 3 plots as one visitor per plot account holder?

Someone with ten char slots on one account could collect ten times if visitor walked on all ten plots with high plot prestige?

please stop lying
we are not stupid
we know the inmense advantage that ea backers had 2 weeks playing before public release.
we know the absurd amount of football coin you guys earned (hundreds of millions)
this will always screw up a driven player economy at the end.

I think football coin is too op right now
there is no point in doing any single activity in the game (hunting, selling, gathering) if I just can buy anything I want with that absurd football passive income.
just login in a few days to collect coin/refuel beacons and that’s it.

Sadly we don’t have football in game. But we should soon have Spleef!
Does that count?

checking my spelling errors instead of giving some argument
plz dont quote me again sir

Yes, he would collect on all 10 alts. As far as i know this would be more or less equal to amount he would collect if he had one bigger beacon or several smaller ones on one alt only.

Plenty of other systems could be implemented to allow for portal hubs to profit.

Sure could. Where would you test which ones are working?

Please do explain your proposed changes

Run it in parallel in the background for like 2-3 months (or however much time is required for testing) if it is a purely passive system/based on simple player actions. They will have the metrics to see how much coin would have been generated vs. the current footfall the same players are making/the entire economy is making. If they want to replace it with a more active system (something like the recycler that another thread is suggesting) then they may need to just have them running in parallel with the understanding that once the numbers are right on the new method, the old one will be removed.

That would prevent for any kind of optimization targeting new system. No way to determine what kind of op tactics would emerge nor would simulate how stuff will change the game when players start to mess with it.
Also this could limit possibilities to similar enough to foothold that economy would not really change.
If done correctly - and after testing the same people would earn similar amount of money - what would exactly change?

Name of new system? Maybe few rules? This would have to be balanced against risk for some completely op tactic would emerge than some people would make killing on it, some would start planning how to take advantage of it and after it would be finally removed we would have the same PR situation we had when bomb mining was removed.

But lets assume that system will work and the same people will be making same amount of cash. Do you think that people who hate foothold today would love this new system?
