This was the plan. Basically the ability to grab a token from Creative and copy it into your Survival inventory and put it into the portal (survival side) and fuel it. Considering the options and other complications merging the two types of game play causes I think this just is the decent answer for now and the removal of the free fuel. People on creative don’t have to connect to Survival if they don’t want to and if they want visitors people can always still just augment warp to the planet pretty cheaply.
I’m sure they will still try to find a way at some point to allow people with the same accounts and multiple planets to be able to connect them together.
This honestly wouldn’t be the worst idea, but it would still suck if you just want to play creative AND wanted people to come see your world or build with you. I guess if you are renting a server, you could lock the survival fueled portal behind a door and charge people monthly coin/oort to come visit?
This was to allow the token from creative to make it into survival so a portal can be opened and any player can come in and visit/build. Now if you wanted to block some people you have to some stuff with the advanced locks I guess.
Maybe patrons of the creative worlds would be more generous with oort than I am anticipating, but I don’t see people just dropping oort into a request basket to cover the portal cost. The responsibility is still going to be on the owner to provide transportation.
I was wondering about the little fiddly bits around the fjords.
Is there a way planned, to send you a json from the World Builder to generate a Sovereign World?
If yes: Any guide lines on the configuration of those, size etc.?
It would be a cool thing to have but to be honest I would not want to stretch the scope of the first release for that.
The idea of this update brought me back to Boundless after taking a year off.
Well hopefully they will have another answer at some point. As I see it “local Server” mode will still need a portal as well so maybe that brings in some technology they need. Ultimately I know they felt the game was balanced enough that a person playing would be able to get enough Oort for 1 1x2 portal for them to have at a hub to their house. Now that the house is on a rented planet I guess that is where they expected that portal to point now. 1x2 at 4 weeks for 900 is do-able.
I continue to weigh this against a system where creative worlds are completely disconnected from the public universe and find it’s a generous compromise.
Its obvious the devs do not want to go the route of two completely separate disconnected universes. I can see why that’s the case too, as all it would do is fragment the existing userbase further.
I think it could also affect the player’s decision whether to get creative or get GC. Financially I think WS would want players to both get GC and creative
If you are mainly on creative, that would mean you are on survival a little… 900 oort for 5 weeks is not difficult to obtain, less than an hour of coin earning or hunting would easily cover it. If you’re a 100% creative player, you can always get to your world via sanctum anyway and wouldn’t need a portal.
How is it a generous compromise? Creative planets cannot be directly linked and you force creative players that do not want to be stuck on a single planet to continue to grind in the survival universe. A compromise normally means both sides give something up. What exactly did the players that are only playing survival give up?
