Testing 234: Chiselable Glass!

MC is the same after a couple of days you have seen it all.
Also there is jungles I’ve never seen a freakin jungle ever again since they needed that biome.

Boundless has a lot of different biomes which don’t have to do anything with having a rainbow of colors.

Just hunting or exploring exos will show you the tons of different areas that can be generated.

I agree with this, except the black gleam unless it’s on small quantities, if we get tons of it it won’t be seen as an amazing resource anymore.

Don’t know much about MC, but CV’s devs aren’t pretending to have 200+ biomes just because they shuffle their blocks around randomly with a generator…

They have a green forest biome, a taiga forest biome with pine trees and grass matted with pine needles, autumn forest biome with dead leaves on the ground, cold biome where the grass is dead and the dirt almost bare, snowy mountains biomes, deserts with cacti, savannah biome with bushes and palm-trees, swamp biome with a muddy water covered with lily pads and willow trees, jungle with trees that have glowing flowers and vines. Then you dig down and get to the fossil layer where you’ll find mossy rocks, stalactite and such, then the lava layer with its magma, and finally the corruption layer, all dark and creepy alien-looking.
Some of their blocks are just recolored, sure, but their biomes are mostly coveyed through unique textures and items, not just prefabs and tints.

Now you may say that CV biomes aren’t awesome looking compared to Boundless’ cool-looking game-engine, and that’s fine, I agree with that. But still.
My point is that Boundless should at one point introduce double the natural stone/wood/leaves/grass/dirt blocks and include them in the world-regen of some new T8 worlds AT THE VERY LEAST.

Yep, my two big addictions before Boundless were Minecraft and No Man’s Sky. IMO, Boundless, far outdoes both in the exploration aspect - in MC and NMS, much as I enjoy them, they do feel repetitive. I really don’t feel that way at all with Boundless, I’m constantly seeing things that feel new, and more, that are very interesting and really beckon me to explore them. Especially on the exos, some of them feel completely unique in terms of the landscape. There is something intangible here, partly the atmosphere/feeling I get from Boundless worlds, and this is just my own opinion of course, but as a heavy “explorer” type in games, I feel that Boundless truly shines. :slight_smile:

I wish wish wish that we had “mix and match” randomized creatures like in NMS. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease james!

Worlds with snow lava sand mountains and forests would really go far in terms of exploring. I think what really holds Boundless back is how few biomes are allowed on each planet and how they are restricted to metal coal and lush restraints.

Each world does have those biomes. Well maybe not t1. Can’t remember if they have the ice biomes. But they all have things like plains, mountains, forests, swamps, etc. Also like how some areas rain more than others. That’s based on the biome you’re in.

The only issue with the biomes goin off how @anon34275467 is talking. Is that the same blocks are in each biome. Minus ice/glacier as that’s really only in the ice/snow biome

Biomes do feel distinct when they have varied block types. Yes, worlds can feel very ‘samey’.

I think that if in the long term there could be a way that biomes could be made more purposefully to fit a theme, it would be amazing. However, as James has pointed out in previous threads, those types of hand crafted works take time/resources that they don’t currently have.

Long term? would it be amazing to go to worlds with increase variation and unique biomes? YES and NO. For the Exo world …no. It is hard enough with the variation that we have seeing that amazing biome appear and realize you can’t build on it.

For new perm world creation? YES would be awesome.

I would be fine with this item being on a ‘wish’ list. Some mixed in hand crafted biomes that highlight interesting elements.

I realize there are 200+ biomes and 300+ colors…but there are several biomes that I know and immediately recognize. The big tower biome with the walls around it in squares as an example. It is a big biome to find, and once you see it and it is on Alycon and Maru and other planets…it does feel a little samey.

I would love it to be different, but am not upset that it isn’t. The worlds are beautiful and SOMETIMES the samey nature is nice for exploring, because you can sometimes know what to expect and easy traverse a new planet.

MC Tr Terr all have diff biomes too. The ice ones in MC have a chance to spawn polar bears, igloos, ice spike formations…desert biomes with special bunnies, cactus, temples, etc…

Terr has special corruption biomes, mushroom/glow biomes, etc with unique weather/creatures/trees/etc

Tr has diff biomes that can spawn diff dungeons, blocks, resources, dragons, rampage bosses, trader NPCs etc.

NMS has lots of unique plants/creatures/resources/atmospheres on each planet/biome

BL has lots of diff biomes, I just think they are more natural and not so abrupt when you cross into a different one - when compared to other games. I would love it if there were creatures/plant/blocks in some BL biomes that we don’t really see anywhere else. ie: flaming beetles near lava/desert biomes, metal golems on metal/coal worlds, patches of fungus/shrooms in swampy areas…

Yeah James, I totally got that you have 200 “biomes”, but the definition of what YOU call a biome is stretched out to its limits. What Tagris linked to is exactly what I mean.
Biomes in Boundless feel a lot like the same thing over and over. I’ve stopped paying attention to your biomes maybe 10 months ago.
I’m not saying that this should be changed ASAP, though, this is not a priority.

However, what NEEDS to be adressed, IMHO, is the fact that new colors are stuck behind the Exo-world wall, which was the point I was trying to make in the first place before the biome tangent.

@james … Seems my questions are being simply dismissed and/or ignored. Please respond.

The message was clear after the last update. Don’t change recipes.

The Glass Block recipes are identical to the Glass Pane recipes.

If the Glass Pane recipes weren’t broken in the previous update I don’t see how they’re broken now.

That still doesn’t tell me WHY the original Glass Pane Recipe REQUIRED Gleam versus Sand when I asked about that WHEN GLASS PANES WERE IN TESTING.

What is the logic behind that? Why can’t we RECOLOR it using the in-game method of recoloring blocks? Please, STOP dancing around my questions.

Yeah, no, Gleam or Sand isn’t the issue, I think.
If I may make a guess, I’d think it’s just that @SephirothWS has the right color of sand handy and not the right color of gleam. :stuck_out_tongue:

If suddenly the colored glass blocks/panes were made out of sand, although it would be more logical in regard to real-life, it wouldn’t change the core issue of the colors availability. The spray-paint feature, currently, isn’t viable either, as it’s bound to goo farming, which… uuuuggggh.

It’s a game. Fantasy. Fun. Not real life.

Flying squid geese that shoot at us and warping to far off planets with a wooden stick don’t follow irl logic either.

Being demanding & rude to the devs probably won’t get you anywhere. :thinking:
