Testing 234: Chiselable Glass!

I for one like that we cant get every color we want here and now and have to wait for events like this or exo, it gives it some prestige.

This gives me something to look forward to, also cant wait to get the cosmetics.
Always love the things you guys make.

There are 50 permanent planets.

Only 31 of them have gleam.

That means out of 255 possible gleam colors, there are 224 colors of gleam that we don’t have daily access to - not just black. People area waiting on lots of colors.

We obtain these special colors via Exo planets & special events. That’s why everyone is so hyped about the awesome Gleambow / glass meteor event next week. You will probably get some black gleam if you participate - I’m sure you could buy some too.

There are people that already have black gleam. It does exist. I just bought 25 more pieces yesterday.

I would like Teal gleam, red gleam, & black foliage. Don’t have those yet. Nor many other things. I’m not mad about it because it’s a game. Gleam is one of this game’s special items. All games have a few special/unique items.

Kinda feels wrong to me, though.

Like you said, there are 255 colors, and for Gleam, only 31 are available through permanent worlds.
That’s a VERY SMALL number.

Sure, it must be fine if you have the one color you like handy (and I do, the Cool blue gleam is very available and quite pretty)… but if you wanna use industrial quantities of a gleam that’s only available through temporary events, then you’re screwed.

As a reminder, 50 glass panes = 216 refined gleam = ~180 natural gleam for mass-craft, which is a pretty big number for ressources that aren’t widely available.

I don’t even get why the glass panes require such big quantities of gleam to being with.

I think the point that came out previously is that the game has to have some higher tier blocks behind a wall otherwise there’s nothing to earn or gain by exploring. If you could spray tint gleam and foliage and glass, there’d be less reason for people to visit exos or do gleambow and get excited about them. It’s boundless’ version of “gotta catch em all!”

If all new block recipes were cheap, there’d be no fancy block recipes for people to earn their way up to.

Also if they used sand for the color there’d still be a limited palette.

Not saying I agree, just explaining.

That’s with any material/color.
People complained about the new marble recipe, got it changed, then got upset when they lost prestige over it. If the glass recipe was changed to sand, I’d assume there would be another huge prestige loss and people would be upset.

There are people that want other specific items too - not just certain gleam colors. I don’t think we should change an entire recipe for one color.

That’s gleamist!

I personally never argued for gleam to be replaced by sand in these recipes, neither have I argued for the changes to the marble recipes.

BUT I do argue that the current method to acquire colors that aren’t available on permanent worlds sucks, plain and simple.

Exo-worlds and the Gleambow event both aren’t a good way to introduce new colors because they are based on temporary windows of opportunity. Such events are ok to get seasonal things like pumpkins, candy canes, rainbow things…

Regarding the “common” blocks colors like Gleam, I argue they should be made available to skilled players on difficult T8+ worlds. They should be made available on content you can control exactly when you’re going to do it.

I argue they should be made available through content like random dungeons (made by the devs or by the community like the Sanctum Halloween/Oortmas zones) that you could warp to whenever you feel like it, just like you can go on a hunt whenever you feel like it (or rather whenever you have a group handy, but you get my meaning).

I’d argue that the Gleambow event shouldn’t even BE a thing, but that we should instead have a low chance, all year 'round, to get a rainbow meteorite instead of a normal meteorite.

So tall…it doesnt fit within the atmosphere
Boundless planets are only 256m tall, from mantle to build height :joy::joy::joy:

29 different ones tho, since there are 2 repeats in the 31 gleam colours…

29…

Kada I and Biitula both have Cool Blue, Delta and Xa Frant both have Silk Turquoise…

88 on the permanent planets alone as opposed to 29 with gleam tho!

And every exo can only have one new gleam colour but it could have 5 new sand colours (1 sand, 1 gravel, 3 rock colours)…

So with sand we would still be rather limited but we would much more easily get there. How many unique rock colours have we had?

Hmmm, after dinner am gonna compile a list of all the rock, gravel and sand colours of the exo planets we’ve seen. Wanted to do that anyways but it’s time! I wanna know!

Which furthers the point that the situation regarding Gleam availability sucks when you don’t have access to the one color you love/need.

And even in my case, when I wanna make estates of different light/white-ish colors of gleam, and use RIDICULOUS amounts of them to do so, I get stuck easily.

I 100% get that exo-world contain higher-tier mats, like rift, blink, umbris.
I woud even love to see NEW materials with new fancy shaders. Some metal above Titanium, like… I dunno… Hardened steel? Tungsten? Those are supposed to be harder than Titanium.
Here’s a list of metals listed with the Mohs scale which is basically the hardness of a material.

As Gold and Silver are “better” than Copper and Iron, things do appear to be out of whack. We use silver and gold weapons because BLING.
If we stay with that way of thinking, we can go with any other metal after Titanium. Platinum and Palladium both sound quite cool.

HERE’S A THOUGHT :
You know how Gleam doors have frames made of a green-ish metal? Guess what, the 2 Gleam chests coming with this Chiselable glass update are also lined with this green-ish metal.

What if THAT metal was something new we could craft? Maybe a compound metal? Iron + whatever? I’d be FINE if the gleam doors and the 3 chests get a recipe update later to include a new metal IF that means we also get a new compound tier of metal in-between Iron and Silver that looks like the one we see on the gleam props.
This tier could be more aesthetic with no weapons or tools tied to it, that’d be fine too.

Then, you ANOTHER metal after Titanium, something actually better than gems and exo-world stuff…

Anyway.
What I was initially trying to say is that colors shouldn’t be what’s locked behind Exo-worlds and other temporary content, but rather new higher-tier stuff.

I think the glass recipes are just fine as is. That being said, I’d just like to remind everyone that gleam is still a base crafting/building material. By Boundless definitions, it is not a “resource.”

I don’t feel we should have 24/7, 100% unlimited access for every single colour of the gleambow. However, I do feel we should have a way of obtaining all colours all year 'round - even if it’s locked behind some dreadful RNG wall and obtained in small amounts. At the very least, we could work towards a goal by trading and saving for what we need by utilizing the economy. I don’t find it fair to punish players for colour preference because others see a base material as “trophy pieces.”

The gleambow event is welcome and I will be taking full advantage of it again, but we should still be considering more permanent ways of granting access to all colours for everything in-game. The Boundless palette is beautiful, plentiful and rich; it should be more accessible across the board IMO, as unpopular as it usually is… :rainbow: :art:

Would it be interesting if the planet levels were related to the amount of brightness colors on that planet? In T1 a bright color, in T2 two colors, etc. Although some colors were repeated on several planets as it happens now …

This. I agree with this. I do NOT agree with punishing players because other egotistical people want color exclusivity. That shouldn’t EXIST in a creative building-based game. No matter the discussion at hand here, I am still wanting an OFFICIAL RESPONSE to why the original recipe decision was made. Blocks like Marble use Refined Gleam in its recipe, but the COLOR isn’t DEFINED by said refined gleam. I’d be FINE with refined gleam STILL IN the recipe for the new glass, but also NOT the defining part of what COLOR results from said recipe.

No one is asking for colors to be exclusive to anything, nor do I see any reason to attack other players. People have explained how BL currently functions - since you asked. You have been responded to by the devs/owner.

Nope! Not at all. Only community members making up EXCUSES for the devs/owner.

Incorrect. He has responded to you.

And danced around the questions at hand. Try again.

Just because you don’t like the answers you are getting, doesn’t mean you weren’t responded to.

Problem. I’m NOT getting the answers I’m seeking. I’m getting IGNORED. Two completely different things.,
