I agree xalda is in the loves the game category. However, the threadcrapping doesn’t help the game or the community.
he is not trying to ruin discussions, he is trying to add other viewpoints and trying to argue from a more rational point of view, generally trying to generate discussion, but everyone just jumps on the lets attack xald bandwagon for no reason, rather then trying to have a reasonable discussion with him.
everyone all saying the same thing and agreeing with each other isn’t much of a discussion nor does it help the devs, from adding in an alternative view on the matter it provides more opportunity for the devs to make a better more informed decision and for better solutions to reveal themselves, sometimes the obvious answer isn’t the best way for the game to deal with it, in this case it would add another layer of complexity for players to set up their beacons with this and better idea would be what @Fiffer13 is mentioning
Try usually. But can’t always bite the tongue

Gotcha, i’m interested to know. I like playing games with a controller and I haven’t done it with boundless yet, but if the triggers will pull items back out I wont do it, defeats the purpose of putting them away to begin with.
The problem is his defense is telling other people that the way they want to play the game is wrong. There’s no need to do more than say “I wouldn’t use this” for an idea like this that harms nobody.
ok then, tell him you feel that you don’t like the way he responds in a polite and respectful manner, I am sure he would try harder to respond better, but it doesn’t help to throw more fire into the mix
Right it would but didn’t plot protection add even more BS/headache than a plot check to not break your stuff? I get saying well what about this??? But pretty sure first comment read was “well why can’t you do this or that” and me personally have just been trying to point out why I/ME personally can’t. Or why I don’t see how putting that feature is harder or more coding than plot protections. But that’s just how I see it. To each their own opinion
try adding to the discussion in a constructive manner and come up with a solution that could work for you and others in the same situation, rather then just saying you can’t and leaving it at that
Fair nuff.
However a solution that would work for all has been proposed.
If anyone can think of a reason why it would HURT their gameplay to have an option like this for beacons, feel free to share it.
I’m sure everyone remembers Steve jobs’ “Hold it differently” debacle. Don’t be that guy
then instead of pushing back hard like you are, try addressing his concerns about adding it, by discussing it in a reasonable and calm manner
Ok an option to turn off beacon damage or having static plots??? Isn’t that’s what been discussing? Or am I right? If remember right concerns… coding. That’s all I get from it. May be wrong.
two examples of problems the proposed idea of turning damage off inside a beacon.
sometimes my beacon is hard to get to, and I need to edit some walls. convenience is truly the topic at hand I feel, and while I don’t have to use it this could be an inconvenience created by it.
Or for the people who hide their main beacon so people can’t see its flame (I know people do this), turn the ability to break blocks off then can’t remove anything until they run out of fuel.
elaborate on that idea, figure out how it could work, what could be a problem with it such as what @Fiffer13 has mentioned and figure out solutions for that. constantly headbutting with the other person in the discussion isn’t very constructive and won’t get anything done, be willing to listen to the other side, you can disagree with them, but you don’t have to be rude or snarky, just say okay, and come up with a solution to counter their point without attacking them and that includes being extremely nitpicky with certain things they have stated, such as taking a small thing they have said and using that to just dismiss them and their argument
You may be conflating my reply with others’. I think I was pretty nice about it. If not I’m sorry.
Let me give another example. Say 4 people post that they’d like an option to disable jumping. I myself would never use this nor can i really think of a scenario where it would be useful. However, there’s no need for me to tell other people it’s a bad idea, or that they’re playing the game wrong. I can simply say I wouldn’t use this and I don’t know that it would be helpful.
Never really thought about the hiding beacon thing. That’s actually a really good argument. But couldn’t they hide it behind a locked door so no one could see it?
I think both sides (including xalda) could benefit from this advice.
If they wanted a random door that might conflict with the design of their build sure. (written from a potential person who builds this way’s point of view, I don’t hide my beacons personally lol).
this is something I learnt from a story I heard on reddit
a doctor dealing with anti-vaxxers, by listening to their concerns and addressing them, while remaining calm and not belittling them or anything, managed to convince them to agree to a modified vaccine schedule, just by listening to their concerns and addressing them
if you listen to someone and let them explain their problem you might make better progress on discussing things with them listen to what they have to say and address their worries
So like he was doing at first it was you’re talking about
had to sorry. Fiffer made a good point just didn’t go in about aahhh no you lazy why can’t you take time to do this. So made me think and ask a question. Attack gets an attacking response.
yeah, if people followed this advise I learnt, we could make so much progress in discussing things with others.
feel free to share this with others both in real life and on the forums.
