What about lines that lead up I have my Moon in the Sky and my Base Below is that still Compact

vertical ‘mess’ doesn’t matter (afaik). only the shape on the map

I think it’s a shame that so much time and effort have to go into creating more rules for plotting. My city wouldn’t be what it is today if these rules existed since the beginning. I laid a highway to new beacons I built far outside the city center in the first few months, leading to others plotting alongside the road. Once it was mostly developed, I extended it to my workshop, and the surrounding land was quickly developed. So I built my farm even farther, extended the highway, and it is currently filling up.

Now I’m in the midst of plotting my first huge build, a stadium, and went a ways outside the city so as not to disturb anyone else’s plans and to give me a little room to change it if I need to. Plan was to bring my highway around the outside of the city with plenty of space between for new development. Not to steal someone else’s settlement, not to gain the extra prestige, not to reserve space for myself, but to have some control over the way the city expands.

It has been very clear to me that people are more comfortable starting new builds in a city when they aren’t worried about messing with the overall flow, whether the founders of that city care or not. You can’t please everyone, but the bottom line should be that anyone can plot anything that isn’t claimed. That’s as close to fair as plotting could ever get. This seems like it will restrict creativity and lead to cities becoming square “galleries” as roads will mostly be extended to accommodate new builds.

Isn’t creative mode ultimately supposed to alleviate the issue of peoples’ plans being hurt by unwanted plotting? When everyone eventually has the ability to have their own world to carry out their entire vision, are communities in live mode still going to be restricted to jamming everyone into this compact cage where nobody can build a neighborhood outside the city and still be a part of it?

Maybe I don’t fully understand this but as it reads now I feel it is a step in the wrong direction, as I still strongly feel about horizontal reservations. Just another rule to protect a select amount of veteran players and limit the creativity of everyone.

If your creativity gets limited by this then you are not very creative tbh.

This is more about thinking twice before plotting enormous spaces just to use them “later”, since you wont be able to grow as easy as before I hope people now actually use the spaces they reserve.

When I was starting It was so infurating to see large areas of forrest and resources all ploted by a city just because they wanted to expand “later”.

This isn’t preventing that. You can still plot a massive square and not build in it and leave it disconnected from your city until you have enough plots to fill in the gap. Only difference now is there’s a better chance someone claims land you wanted to plot for the road.

My farm land is large and I didn’t build on it for some time, but now I am. What’s the difference? My stadium is large and I plan to start it soon. If any individual says they were planning to build there sooner, first off they’re lying, secondly I’d ask why they didn’t plot it. If we all had unlimited plots then it would be a huge issue as too many people would plot everything they like, but if someone owns a 20x20 square and doesn’t intend to build there, they’re giving up 400/800/1200 earned plots for nothing.

And by “limiting creativity” I’m talking about not allowing the city to take a natural, unique shape. Not my own creativity, but the collective creativity of all members of the city.

We had one Great Transmigration already…:joy:

that’s exactly what I’m doing now
all my buildings are connected with roads and instead of tearing them down i just claime everything around them
actuel already 2000plots are gone where before others could build

edit: in my opinion it would been better to just switch off the protection from too less compactness
because that was the original problem with the abuse

Yeah and that was his answer to me. Hopefully doesn’t make me rage quit. “Another lifetime player” :joy: seriously

Because you brought up you spent irl money and imply with your multiple responses that you feel a certain way because you spent irl money. Therefore because of your responses you are putting purchased plots to a higher value then earned plots.

So I want to say I appreciate the large cities and the portal networks they create. However the long road networks around the worlds I do not use and I can honestly tell you most people don’t use them. Why would you if you can port close to where you want to go. Maybe I have read this incorrectly but it looks like @James said the larger the compactness of a build is the longer you can extend your build outward. So if your initial build is a 100x100 plots the roads could technically be longer before reaching the threshold of being non compact. I dont understand the complaints here rules needed to be set to allow the developers do what developers do and that is develop with all the fights they have had to spend more time settling disputes instead of bringing new content. This is a mmo with that it is going to change adjust and balance accordingly if you can’t understand this and adjust to these changes then maybe mmo’s are the wrong genre for you. I’m sorry to sound insensitive but I have been playing mmo’s since everquest this is what keeps mmo’s relevant the constant changes.

One thing I’ve learnt from playing mmos over the years is that different people have different opinions and that’s just fine.

Well if youve been playing mmos like me since everquest you certainly know what happens when games fundamentally change. Have a look at the game trailer and advertisements. This was not marketed as a “care bear” game it was about conquering and as far as I know thats kinda hard to do without someone losing/and or getting muh feelnz hurt.

I know, and certainly playing MMOs like yourself for years what happens when games cater to that select noisy forum few, populations dwindle and these same folks take their crusade to the next game.

The very name Boundless infers that you can build ANYTHING anywhere yet month by month we are stifled and corralled into smaller and smaller places soon I am expecting we will be allowed only so many plots on an individual planet in a certain square type settlement. That just doesnt seem boundless to me at all.It is however the direction it seems to be heading.

Compactness is just another word for restriction but hey if thats the direction then change the trailer and the name.

People do use the roads to hunt meteors I see this a lot but as Ive said in other threads some ppl like to build roads as their creative expression so we should discriminate on whats real artistic expression vs not?

I use roads during solo hunts, gleambow, and filling out atlases. It makes traversing the terrain much quicker and it is nice to not worry about falling in holes.

And you can use portals to get around a planet quickly, but think about all the nice builds you might not see by always taking the portal shortcut.

With that said I get why a lot of players hate roads, especially with how some players have used them.

  1. I would have been bummed out to no end if I hadn’t bought them with irl money since IT IS a problem no matter what
  2. The fact that I did pay money means it feels a bit worse FOR ME, has nothing to do with me thinking these plots are more important or not, it’s all about my personal feelings

The only one that sounds like there feelings are hurt is you. You are also a select few who think that you have no limitation to what you can and cant do. You want the rules to bend to your needs to benefit you. This selfish attitude is what ruins mmo’s I have been following this game since it first started its crowd funding beginning please show me a link to a video that backs your statement.

The fact is that you and your friends are getting very annoying. I advise you to think about your behavior and the way you use to communicate.

We believe this change makes the plotting system fairer for ALL players and is in the best interest of everyone now and in the future.

And i agree with that. Many will have to rebuild their homes, it will take some time. Those who wanted to have the largest territories and such players are a minority here will suffer the most.

Your manner of communication is extremely tiresome, you perceive everything as an attack. I doubt any of the players have caused you any inconvenience, but i bet you don’t even know how many people you’ve alienated with your way of playing and communicating.

@catfud

One thing I’ve learnt from playing mmos over the years is that different people have different opinions and that’s just fine.

No doubt! But there are only two ways to communicate - acceptable and unacceptable. :boundless:

@Conkuur
PS: And now i see that you are writing something… Frankly, i’m scared of it. I would very much like you to be more friendly, there are no enemies here.

I agree. The way you express yourself is often more important than the content of the post.

The point made about the way the game was advertised is valid. The community has been BEGGING the devs to take that sort of language out, since as it turned out the game evolved in a carebear direction. And that’s ok. Games evolve. But they should really update the marketing language.

I Play solo because attitudes like yours. I enjoyed the game the way I bought it IM not the one asking for change I genuinely like it the way it is. Would I change some things? sure but I also know how to adapt. Truth is even if this goes wonky Im still gonna rise above it and Ill adapt to this but I certainly dont have to like it because you or even a Dev says so and I have every right to dispute just like you.
