Testing 240: Compactness and Shopping API!

Do you think it will be possible for devs to manage the abusers when the game grows in population?

When the game grows the dev team can grow with it. And they can actually assign a team specifically for solving these problems

Add the viewing option and wait with the rest as of now compactness update is causing more trouble for the people than that it gets constructive criticism in any other way.
Can’t test it my self but seeing in the forum people that can test it panicking around removing and adding like a headless chicken plots, starts to worry me a bit.

Sorry but to be fair most posts atm are off topic and giving no information what so ever.

If there’s only a few people truly abusing the system, take action against those players. Give them the headache of fixing their own stuff or just ban them.
It’s obvious when people are trolling/being *****. Get rid of the filth. I’d rather have a few problem players upset than everyone else simply playing the game

i don’t understand why make the rest of your game community go through this all because some players should have had their beacons removed. this seems only to drive more and more players away from this game- when the community is already so sparse.

Hmm, some good points coming up. Not sure what my opinion is anymore on this

Best suggestion i have? get a real GM in this game and stop with this whole “we have to make beacons unplottable if they aren’t a square shape”
that makes for a ■■■■ game and frustrates me more this is the priority instead of actual content for this game.

I have tested it and did not find it hard to figure out what to do to fix it when I reach a two low compact level. I think that players are panicking in some instances when it is not even necessary. They are concerned because they cannot see exactly how they might be affected in the live game. However, I cannot believe that players will not be given time to address issues before the developers go in to start removing plots. How long players might need is certainly a valid question.

a better question for you- if those plots that need to be removed have been an issue why haven’t they been removed anyways?
why has this issue not been handled on a case by case basis rather than role out an unnecessary change to the game.

I think there is a major focus on players using the reservation system to reserve land they do not have the plots to reserve on their own. However two reasons were given by James:

It has not been that long since the announcement was made that the behavior is in fact banned. I understand putting in a mechanic versus having to spend developer time looking over each planet on some scheduled basis and then contacting the players in order to get the situation resolved.

I am not at all sure that some change was not necessary. I look at some of the planet maps and try to imagine myself as a new player. I would feel so hemmed in by players that were already there and frustrated that I would constantly be trying to plot and finding the land was already plotted even if it was not being actively used.

I do agree with this from a new player aspect. Some might get a claustrophobic feel and not see any “fresh start” locations

literally TONS of room around all these planets and i know in my city we openly make roads and help start new players out. I can’t even comprehend feeling like there are no start locations when i can still wander all over and find no plots- whole regions with no players at all

I didn’t think it was that bad on testing either but the difference is this will be applied to current builds, current cities, current places that were not built with this system in mind. Some places grew organically and some were meticulously master planned. Trying to figure out which plots to delete which roads to move around in a densely populated area that has been around for a while is the problem.

I think the devs need a system to deal with trolls. Otherwise they’re going to have to keep tightening down the screws and this won’t be able to be called a Sandbox anymore

I personally have contacted the devs only once. A buddy of mine has contacted the devs only once. Both were due to plot reservations from inactives messing things up and leaving wilderness plots in the middle of a developed area.

That’s two cases where the devs had to solve new problems based on new rules. This will not decrease the amount of issues.

As long as it is an MMO we will have trolls. So there is a hard balance going on to keep the sandbox portion but also recognize that it is an MMO.

I do agree with your point that it is not going to be easy for players with large current builds to figure out and make changes to their builds to accommodate the changes. I do think players need to figure out if there is a percentage less than .25 that would work for more players and also push to be given enough time to correct any issues. If they do change the percentage, I would think it would be beneficial to republish the maps using the new percentage.

see? i understand this beacon is kind of an issue- it’s alllll over the place but still, there is almost nobody around them. they should have the freedom to play how they wish SO LONG as it isn’t negatively impacting other players.

This is an example of someone just having plotted the land so they could create a more organic shaped base for themselves. they’ve been working hard and to be told that they have to use more plots around the whole thing to make it a square seems actually wasteful to me.

No one has ever said it has to be square. my build is two rectangles connected by a bridge over a lake and it is still blue. Will the person in the second example have to add plots to the area at the top where it is narrow? Yes or remove those plots entirely. Look at the small beacon south of the island example. Also not square and also still blue.

It solves the issue of me being able to plot and reserve 90k plots of a planet without the devs having to lift a finger. Which seems to be the stated goal behind this. Will it fix trolling? Not really. Will it stop settlement take overs? Its not designed to. Will it automatically eliminate a large reservation abuse mechanic going forward? Definitely. Is it worth the constraints that need to be added to do so? :man_shrugging:

The issue of reserving plots arose because of the plot reservation system that is causing issues for others. There is no way this won’t be overly limiting on more players than it’s helping.

I also don’t understand how anyone can say there isn’t room to build elsewhere. Look at these maps. Even on T1’s you can find like 1/8 of the entire planet to plot.

It won’t stop large settlement reservations or people from plotting 90k if they want to you just can’t start with the perimeter anymore that’s all. Definitely won’t stop trolls.

It seems like the devs are trying to figure out a way to automate dealing with trolls … in a passive way …but they are harming the general population in the process imo. Maybe they don’t don’t have enough staff members to moderate and deal with trolls in game.

I don’t think James said he was trying to prevent large reservations I think he wanted the system to prevent the spread out spaghetti empty plot areas.

Added… sorry if my punctuation or words are messed up right now I am using Google talk to text and it doesn’t like my accent
