Being that they set Private Creative to connect to the Public Universe I would assume at some point this would be true for the local worlds too. There is probably some more checks they might need to put in since the local worlds would have more access to be “messed with.” I’m not sure if local worlds would get an update yet fully…
I’m not well versed in the technical stuff but I thought the prototype creative was run via a locally run discovery server that you had to switch your client over to?
I don’t have all the details either but yeah there is a local discovery server. There are still a variety of systems that still link back into the AWS infrastructure though. Plus they have other challenges like how to keep the local server up to date with patch revisions, etc. So I’d expect we will always see a longer development cycle on this part of the game because it is a side initiative instead of the major released components - at least right now.
I’m not 100% sure if they will still link local to public environments so players can come back and forth. I haven’t had a talk with James about it after the last one where I really tried to influence why we should allow it. (Protecting from exploits of course). So I haven’t had a followup to see how that discussion was received with the larger Dev group. I’m not sure if even that have fully decided if this local option stays as a perm part – it was experimental.
Make your home beacon on the planet you’re hunting from with a portal to the creative world hunting hub. Have a portal from that hub to all 50 regions. When you’re finished with a meteor open a warp to home. (Free instead of the 100c for warping within the same world) then from home go to the creative world hunting hub portal. From there go to the next region. Rinse and repeat for 100% free hunting.
Here I took what James said as a one way portal since I don’t understand why it should be limited only to opening a portal from creative to a survival planet
Since there are (mostly) no limits on the creative worlds, why keep the skill point cap? Might as well enable 1 char to do it all to make it even easier to test things out and unleash creativity?
What about no portals between creative and public worlds? And no permanent public characters visiting creative worlds?
Instead add 11th alt slot for special creative character. Everyone able to use that slot to create an alt with 100 skill points available. That character would only be able to enter creative worlds ( while your normal alts would only enter public worlds).
When you want to go to a creative world, you use your normal permanent public character and go to a public world that the creative planet is attached to. Then you go to the sanctum. There you switch to your creative alt. When you do it, you are able to open the portal on the right using locations tab. And that tab would have a list of locations on creative worlds that are attached to the public world you see in sanctum, and that you have permissions to visit of course. The same way you have location to your sovereign available when you get one.
When you are done with your creative adventures, you go back to sanctum from whatever creative worlds you visited, and switch back to one of your regular alts. That alt will have the left portal open to last location, as always.
Note that the creative alt would always be available in the Sanctum, no matter what world you go there from. Like an alter ego of your regular alt, always there ready to kick in and start exploring his own dimension.
That way no portals needed from creative to regular worlds and no messy situations created by that. Creative worlds will still have unlimited free portals within their borders, of course.
In short:
Use a separate alt for creative worlds, instead of a skill page.
Travel to and from creative via sanctum, where switching between your normal
alt and your creative alt will allow exploring either the regular public worlds or the creative worlds.
