What turns you off playing Boundless?

As a 1 year+ EA player, I also felt tricked when 1.0 launched and I saw the new character models, the initial set of planets and the broken lighting. I couldn’t even start the game for 2 weeks after launch because I was so heartbroken.

I initially got the game because of this trailer, for content we still don’t have today.

But back then the game I got at least looked like in the trailer.

I don’t play on the PS so I am unsure what is in the game that isn’t in the trailer other than the Titan and a few creatures around the 2:25 mark. Maybe the graphics are slightly better in the trailer which could very well be PC graphics maybe I dunno…

It’s actually an entirely different engine in the trailer IIRC.

That’s also to do with abandoning some of the early character concepts. The engine change I mean.

Changes in appearance, new furniture and such probably are not added because they don’t have people on contract for this or they are working on other stuff indefinetley, so I think it’s just a way to not spend money.

Honestly, this may be a legitimate feature of the game, and I completely understand why it is, and how it is…but the fact that there’s basically a monopoly of areas, resources, and everything else by what I consider in-game conglomerates. The huge Guilds that basically run everything everywhere is what turned me off playing Boundless. I know, I know; “there’s other places, you don’t need to join them, blah blah blah.” True. But if you play solo, you basically have nothing, unless you learn to do everything yourself. It makes it fun that way, definitely, I just don’t have the time to do so. Great game, regardless, always recommend it to others, just not for me.

Literally just said I understand the mechanic of the game, just don’t prefer it, so I don’t play anymore. Which, by the way, is exactly what was asked.

@Gypsy I’ve been playing with 3-4 friends and not once have I joined a major guild and I’ve been successful in my adventures to be setup where I am today. Past year or so I’ve been pretty much playing solo and still managed to get everything I need. Took a bit longer yes but still I got to where I can say a comfortable state to where I can hold my own.

Do you have examples of resources you feel are controlled by monopolies? You don’t have to give specific examples, I just don’t feel like I’ve experienced this and I’m curious to understand.

Dunno if it’s still the case but there once a player named after a certain pokemon that plotted a huge chunk of diamond on (Mcrib, maybe?) one of the Blast worlds. And before that in early access another player plotted most of the red gleam on Vulpto

Oh so many hours of digging past their plotted barrier and stealing all the diamonds :joy: Good times for my early guildmates and I. We made a mining base right next to there because it was so easy to consistently tunnel in and take it all.

The major Guilds that control the portal hubs. Yes, they took the time to gather the resources and build everything up, but they control pretty much all trade routes. That would be, to me, a multi-guild conglomerate monopoly. No hate, just saying that with the amount of plots that one or two players hold, they’re basically Jeff Bezos rich in-game

And a solo player who is one of the most established and most capable people I’ve ever met

Before sovereigns, this was one of my few gripes about Boundless, blocking off large chunks of what were then much more scarce resources. More than once I ended up cussing out loud after running into massive areas of blocked off hotspot on Malurialakrib.

Part of the reason I did what I did with my own sovereigns off Alcyon… and I’m not the only one who has done that for sure. If there is a certain permanent planet resource someone is looking for, if you ask, one of us probably has a freely accessible spot we’ve opened for it that is likely better than what you’ll find on the permanents even.

thats the reason people plot in city’s for footfall
they did change some rules to prevent unbuild terrain but you stick gemblocks underground and avoid the same block rule and you golden

I know you kind of clarified this somewhat, but I have never been a huge guild kind of guy in other games minus say a few larger MMORPG games.

I play solo mostly and while I thought I needed to be in a big guild to accomplish anything I have totally found it’s not necessary at all. I have been on many hunts (nearly 3-4 a week some with 20+ people), I have established a large base, numerous shops and I have a lot of projects going (more than I will ever admit too).

That being said I don’t think you need to be in a big guild at all and while sure they control hubs (I wouldn’t call them trade routes) you could very well bypass the hubs if it better suits you and your playstyle. I feel the hubs are just a convenience for the most part. They don’t have to provide them and really some of the larger ones like TNT aren’t an easy thing to maintain. For me personally, even if I joined a large guild I would still play pretty independently. I like to accomplish things on my own … and I think a lot of people in the game are similar.

I also am not sure if everyone in a large guild is rich, I would imagine they are not and I also am not sure what amount is defined as rich in this game but I can get to 10 million in a couple of days fairly easily and have done it a few times, my problem is I spend it quick as I want to put the money back in to the economy.

To your point it takes a lot of time … and even if you are in a large guild it is still going to take a lot of time. I could see how that isn’t for a lot of people.
