Community hunts are broken for me

I used to go on a few community hunts as it was a great way (in fact practically the only way) of getting any gems and oort in any significant quantities for mass crafting weapons and tools but since the meteorite update and bombs etc they have become virtually unplayable for me.
As soon as the meteorite hits and the mobs start spawning and bombs and lasers etc are flying all over the place the lag becomes too much, my character just spends half the time rubberbanding all over the place and then dying … I’ve tried reducing the graphics settings right the way down just before the hunt begins but this doesn’t seem to make any difference (usually I can play with them all on max with no problems) … any help would be appreciated as it seems that solo playing (particularly hunting) is not encouraged simply by the fact that unless you are a pure hunter with no other skill sets the only resources you can comfortably get in any quantities is raw meat, bones and tallow.
I am in the process of creating another alt but it is very time consuming due to the grind of getting enough skill points to be able to specialise (even a miner has to be part hunter now to be able to survive in caves, particularly off world)
I appreciate that all the Devs are probably very busy at the moment with regards to the new update in testing at the moment but any help with this would be appreciated, I have mentioned it in other threads before but no response so far.

How does your machine compare to the Recommended and Min specs?

Additionally can you share details of your connection?

Maybe try lowering the graphical options? I play at Ultra settings with no issues at all and I play on a laptop and not even a PC. You can also reduce the block chunk data value or something, I do that when I play on the Aussie worlds to reduce the lag.

Rubber banding is more likely network related rather than graphics. You can see the frame rate using the F1->Profile information, if its >10fps then its not going to be that. Some of the hunts maybe going to worlds in regions (eg EU v US) that you dont go often where the connection may not be as good.

Hi James, hope this helps, let me know if any other information is needed

Windows10, 64 bit, Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHZ, 16GB Ram (DDR4 8Gx2), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M, C Drive DDR Ram 118GB available, D Drive Optical 680GB available

SourceForge Speed Test: Run every time before I play the game - Very similar results each time.
Latency/Ping 33ms, Download Speed 31.6Mps, Upload Speed 12.7Mps, Packet Loss 0%
The Ping test was left to run for a few minutes.

I play on max settings too with no issues generally, I have tried lowering the graphics settings just before the hunts start but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. When we are all running around the landscape everything is fine, It’s just when the battles heat up and all hell is let loose. It seems to be too much going on at the same time.

Thanks for the details.

During the next hunt can you play with the Latency and Frametime graphs open and see if can spot any relationships between the stalls/lag on the graphs. If so, share a few screen shots.

Additionally share a screenshot of the Latency Histogram after the event with the Log scale enabled.

I’ll try and get on a hunt tomorrow if I get the chance … how do I get all that information?

Press F1 and then click on Menu to see the options.

Ah yes thank you i keep forgetting about f1, never really looked at all the information properly on it, lots to take in.

Finally managed to attempt another community hunt but still just as bad. This all seems to of started when the update that gave mobs bombs was initiated. Now whenever I go through a portal quite a few times I will get the “bad connection” message and rubberband for about 20-30 seconds before it settles down.

On the hunt this evening I lost the hunting party after the first few portal hops due to rubberbanding, managed to catch up with them and they where already engaged with a meteor. As soon as I got anywhere near the group the connection wouldn’t let me do anything. Constant rubberbanding, sometimes could move but everyone seemed frozen but my shots had no effect. Kept getting killed, at one time instead of my character going back to solum it just floated around in a big circle just above the surface, had to use escape a few times to get back to solum. After the second meteor and pointless dying and not being able to do anything I gave up and left the hunt.

The first image is when I couldn’t return to solum.

This second one is when the body just floated around on the surface bouncing off the terrain as it went around in a big circle, had to use escape to get out of it.

When I was far enough away it stabilised, not much point of joining the community if you can’t join the community!!!

Missed all the action, trying to catch up!

Approaching the fun again and it all starts going to pot again … this happened sooo many times that it just became boring and tedious and pointless.

Even on the rare occasion that I was able to get close to the action I wasn’t able to do anything accept get a couple of shots in, majority of shots seemed to have no affect. Couldn’t even hit a dead creature to pick up anything.

Everything fine back in solum, bad connection as soon as I stepped through.

Went back to the location of the hunt after it had finished and everything was fine again.

@james, @vdragon
When I first bought Boundless I did initially have connection problems but I then upgraded my broadband to Fibre and it has been absolutely fine with all the graphics settings at max. It is only since the last update that I have been noticing these problems.

Is there any other information I need to provide? …or anything I can try to improve the situation?

A game log from a game session where you get that could show something.
The latency is 20-40+ seconds (no ms) in those graphs so something dramatic is happening to your connection.
If you play on wifi try a cabled connection as a test to isolate where its dropping.
If its repeatable keep that ping test running and see what the numbers looks like when it happens.

Thanks michaelb, I’ll do that next time I get a chance. It just seems strange that I didn’t have these problems before and nothing has changed with my computer or Internet connection. I’ve only noticed this happening since the last update.

If I press f1 is it straight forward/self explanatory to get/create a game log? and is there a simple way to get screen shots… at the moment I press the screen print button then open a paint program to paste the image into then export it as a jpeg which is pretty cumbersome when trying to play the game at the same time to get the results.

For getting the game log see Q: How do I share a Boundless game log?

The default screenshot key in Steam is F12.

The game log you will need to get from the file system. It will generally be a text file ending in .log … more details here … Q: How do I share a Boundless game log?

Edit: @michaelb pipped me to the post by about 1.5 seconds :stuck_out_tongue:

@michaelb @Stretchious thanks I’ll do that the first chance I get to go on a hunt, probably this weekend :slightly_smiling_face:

I can see from other posts that I’m now not the only one suffering with this problem …
