The Common Item Trade Experiment, @ The InfiniPlexx

Hello all!

I’m starting a project, and just curious to see what happens. But I need your help!
You can get to The InfiniPlexx by going through the portal at the NE Corner, Ultima HQ Portal Hub, Under Clock Tower.

Participating Items (Will have an BLUE price sign @ The InfiniPlexx):
-Item (Request Basket Price/Shop Stand Price)
-Raw Earthyam 2c/4c
-Raw Starberry 4c/7c
-Flint 2c/4c
-Tallow 2c/4c
-Raw Meat 2c/4c
-Spicy Bean 5c/7c
-Bone 2c/4c

On deck items: (Request baskets buying @)
-Grass Seeds 2c
-Sap 6c

1. What is the Common Item Trade Experiment? (Will refer to it as the CITE)

I have decided to start trying to change the economy from the ground up. The basic idea is to start selling common items for 4c each, and buying for 2c. To start, I’ve chosen 3 items that are very easy to farm. Starberries, Earthyams, and Flint.

2. What is the goal of the CITE?

To turn common items into a trade economy. The idea is you will always be able to trade common items you dont want, for common items you need at a ratio of 2:1. An example that you could do right now: Lets say you have a load of earthyams, and want to make torches with Flint. Simply sell all your earthyams for 2c, and use the money to buy Flint @ 4c.
The end goal would be to make this trade possible for all Common Items. (and later perhaps do the same for uncommon/rare?)

3. You said you needed help! How can I help?

Easy! Just go farm a stack of one of the participating items, and sell it to the request baskets at The InfiniPlexx. If everyone reading this took 15mins and farmed a stack to sell, it would really Jump-start the experiment. Or, If you see any of these items on sale at a store for 1c or 2c, consider buying them and selling to the baskets @ The InfiniPlexx, as it will only cost your time.
Also, please resist the urge to buy all the stock at 4c, so that you can sell it in your shop for profit. This will only work if there is an even and steady flow of Buy/Sell happening. In other words… don’t be that guy/gal.
Finally, you can help add more items to the experiment! I have added request baskets to 3 items that are “on-deck”. Tallow, Raw Meat and Sap. Once those baskets are full, they will join the others and so-on until we have gotten all the common items.

I’m very excited to see what happens, and hope you all can help!

Flint might be common, but the price of it is usually higher than other common items because of its requirement to make Titanium Furnace bases. That said, don’t most stores do this already? They usually put out request baskets buying the same stuff they are selling in store. If they do not have a request basket out, you can usually PM them or something to sell things.

I think this is a great idea and I just happen to be swimming in earthyams and sap that I’m not using right now, expect me by sometime this afternoon

How about “super” common materials (Rocks, for instance)?

Interesting experiment, I buy raw starberries for 10c at my workshop, and sap for 15c. It may be “common” but I’ve tried buying for lower and no one would sell.

Shameless plug: we buy and sell those in volume (3c/2c for common rocks, and 4c/3c for uncommon) over at 🌍 Worlds Warehouse—Raw Block Shop & Color Reference if you’re looking for an outlet :stuck_out_tongue:

Something I do is not sell or buy from ebay shops. I sell the goods I don’t use to crafters who are needing the materials. If I walk up to a shop stand and see a bascket buying something for 20c then the shopstand selling for 200, I urinate on it (in my mind) and leave the shop.

If I set up baskets , It’s for me to use in my crafting.I’m not saying people shouldn’t buy and resale. To each their own.

That’s what gave me this idea in the first place! Most “Rock” stores buy for 1c, and sell for 2c. You can basically trade colors you don’t want, for colors that you need at a ratio of 2:1! I suppose I’ll include Block type items eventually, but the “drop” type items are the foundation of the crafting economy, so I’d like to start with those just to see if it will work.

Hey now, a little competition doesn’t hurt anyone, right? Lol

I’ve been by before Nevir, and I will again! Beautiful setup you have there

Completely welcome plug. In fact, If anyone starts buying/selling any common items at 1c/2c, please by all means drop a plug in here letting ppl know what you have available for trade!

I traded a compact diamond early for a few stacks of rocks. I don’t see how this is any different. Everything has a value.

Yeah, that’s enraging.

Everything does have a value, you are correct. The difference with this is to set that value at a known amount for each item. Specifically each common item would be worth half another common item, or 1c.

If by a “few” you mean you got 3 stacks of rock for 1 compact diamond, then you traded 10 rare items (it takes 10 rough diamond to make a compact diamond) for 2700 common items. So each Diamond was worth 270 rocks to you. Was it a fair trade? Well, that depends on what you need. As far as raw value goes, many people would say whoever got the diamond made out favorably. But, if you are a builder, and need rock blocks, then the diamond is worthless to you… so in that scenario whoever got the rocks got the better deal.

The problem with the economy right now is that no one knows the value of anything. The point of this is to see if we can set that value starting with some of the basic crafting ingredients. Then there would be no need to guess values. You would know how many rocks each of your diamonds was worth.

Again, it is an experiment. If it fails, then I’ll only loose about 100k to the request baskets and be stuck with a large amount of inventory that I can’t sell. I think its worth it just to see what happens.

What are starberries used for…Aside from soup.

You can craft them into syrup, which then can be used to make bags of sugar that are used in crafting pies.

Mmmmmm…pie.

Edit: the filters on this site suck.

I like this idea. Myself I use tons of sap however don’t use up my meat. This would be a trade I would be interested in. I will swing by and check things out and maybe make a deposit.

Would be nice to start a standardized pricing system of sorts, even if it’s just with the small stuff.

Thank you for all the feedback! Also, thank you to everyone who bought and sold any of the first 3 items, I have gathered some valuable data in the first day and have decided to adjust accordingly.

First and most drastic:
The price to buy/sell common items has to increase. A few people noticed “Wait… so you are saying that my Rocks are worth the same as my flint, my dirt the same as an earthyam, and my foliage is worth a starberry???” That doesn’t make sense. As when farming Rocks/dirt/foliage, i get the item drop roughly every 3 blocks. So in reality, my starberry is worth 3x a foliage. I don’t think the prices need to increase 3x… so for now, we’ll see how 2c/4c goes.
What does this mean?
In the long run, not much. Your common items are still worth half of another common item, but now they are worth 2 of their corresponding common block type. (1 earthyam is worth 2 dirt, 1 starberry is worth 2 foliage, and 1 flint is worth 2 rocks) I only started at the cheapest possible amount so that I wouldn’t lose much if it failed. I’m over that, and am going to invest heavily in this project. This doesn’t yet bring it in-line with the drop rate at 3x, but it will inch it closer. I would rather see 2c/4c work rather than have to go higher, so we’ll see how it goes.

As for the on deck items, Tallow, Raw Meat, and Sap. None of them have come close to getting enough stock yet to become a full participating item. Someone DID sell 500 sap and around 800 Tallow, thank you to that person/persons for putting your faith in the project! It meant a lot when i saw that, because as I said before, there is no way I can do this on my own… I really really appreciate all the help!
Once those baskets have enough stock in them (around 10000 items) I will be making them fully participating items.

Day 1 numbers:

-Earthyam: sold 964/ bought 1622
-Flint: sold 0/bought 1203
-Starberry: sold 1431/bought 0

On deck items:
-Sap: at 500 stock
-Tallow: at 866 stock
-Raw Meat: at 3 stock

Tallow is now a fully participating item! (I found a shop selling a bunch at 2c!)

For now, we’ll bring Spicy Beans aboard as “on deck”. I would include bone, but we should wait until after the Halloween event for that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Dropped off raw meat and earthyams. Then bought a bunch of starberries. That facility is huge.
