When one person reaches end game, they should not be able to hog an entire planets resources. End game is broken, and these extravagant examples should have been clear indicators. Merin proved rock farming was broken with end game items, and even made an outrageous statement about it by making a video of him taking a noob all the way up to 50 in just a few hours. Aridhol made a show of force by distributing godly ranked tools and brews to players to stripmine gems from the few planets available. 18 players with tools they shouldn’t have, suddenly infesting the very few end game planets and amassing crazy amounts of gems. Though it wasn’t entirely charity on his part, he got to keep 50% of what they got. Now we have a bigger problem on our hands. Those of us struggling the grind can’t get any god damn gems, because the forged tool miners have been artificially inflated and now theres holes everywhere where gems SHOULD be. Being mined at rates that atlas’s cant handle, and neither can regeneration because the devs didn’t plan on 1 god tier player orchestrating a mass stripmining of a 0.20% and less resource on the only planets of their kind! It wasn’t meant to be this scarce of a resource. Over time as players reached higher levels more planets would have rolled on pushing the gods to the higher tiers and allowing the new high levels to have a stake at the claim that the old ones had. Here, why don’t I help open your eyes about the problem.
-Mining for several hours only to find somebody else has already emptied every location I have went to and took only the diamonds. In around 8 hours I have found Maybe 4. Go to a town to find thousands being sold for 1 thousand coins each. (its no wonder why i cant find any.)(EDIT: Yes I know how to use an Atlas)
-RNG stuff. Centraforge is basically useless without power. I made it to help with the diamond grind. I kinda want to rage quit because I fail roughly 18 or 19 times in a 20 action forge attempt. A huge waste of time and resources for me. Though i did manage to get 2 aoe hammed (low blow- hits the bottom block too) I would have not even bothered to make a centraforge yet if i knew it was going be like this early on.
Mostly, “the grind ground you down” category.
At this moment I need tons of gems to power up machines. Gatering gems for mass production (more than 300) is taking tons of time. I dont have it cause of work. For hour of mining you can find 0. So u need at least 3 hours in a row. And even it doesnt guarantee that you’ll find anything. So… I often dont even log in if I dont have several hours for the game. It happends not so often now. And when I have time I prefer games that provide faster progress and where I can play with friends.
So we’ve got a lot of barely played T1/2 worlds now, and the playerbase has moved onto to farming T5/6 which are now overcrowded, and because mid-game progression is unbalanced, we have T4 jus’ aimlessly wanderin’ in space.
Ive also put over 400hours into the game and ive no chance to competr or reach those people. I mean there must be alot of people getting 10s of thausand in footfall each day, i built coneccted to hub gathered as a looney only to discover that was the wrong choice and now mining for gems is not an option and to keep gathering and trying to earn the coin that way is really not worth it.
I guess ill just bide my time and stockpile like crazy. Have sold so much stuff in the begining i really regret now, also regret like crazy waiting and saving my compact peat and refined stones to make decorative…
Does anyone know if the atlas heat maps are updated at a specific time each day and if so is it across all servers at the same time. From what I understand they supposedly update once every 24 hours but if for example that is at midnight GMT then anyone on the EU servers who has to do those annoying little things like sleep, go to work etc etc by the time they get home and log in to play in the evening the maps are already at least 19 hours out of date, whereas someone somewhere on the opposite side of the world when they log in they will see a fresh updated heat map. I realise this is probably a very simplified theory of how atlases update and work but it would also explain why absolutely every location I go to for major resources such as gems are always already empty and the atlas is for all intents and purposes useless.
Since the changes to bomb mining it has caused people to feel very frustrated. I would have to say I agree with them.
My issue is with bomb mining being SO powerful and then it was just taken away without something to kinda fill the gap in between.
Since the update I have tried regular mining (Couldn’t afford, find or craft an AOE hammer) and bomb mining. In all of that I have found maybe 3 or 4 veins. At this point this portion of the game is just frustrating and no fun at all to me. It just causes frustration when I get down there and can’t find any gems and then more frustration when I remember how many gems I used to be able to get. I have no problem coming out of an mining excursion with less gems than I used to but I’m not finding any.
This is interesting, from gem mining recently I’d come across a load of bomb holes, groan because i thought the area had been stripped, but then started finding resources in the walls of those.
Most of the time it’s just coal and stuff, so it might have been left behind but it seems like there’s still partial regeneration ongoing.
To everyone who has a lvl 50 character or two, mines 600 gems an hour, and has 2,000 power on all their machines, congrats! You are awesome! And I am really enjoying some of your buildings/cities, especially the airship and flying car on Maryx.
However, I’m stuck in this mid-game failure to launch funk and it looks like I’m not alone. I’m using iron tools, and have been since I dunno lvl 20, now mid-30s on two characters (because, ya know, ya have to waste 1 character slot on a crafter). And I don’t foresee getting better tools any time soon because on a T5 planet after 4+ hours of mining I have found 1 titanium and 5 gems ever. Most tools probably take power to forge or something, and power takes gems. And I can’t find gems… but power needs gems… and mining with iron is slow… but better tools are made from gems… and it takes gems to make gems…
Could buy gems, maybe. Not interested in that. Not how I want to play the game. I’m going to keep playing a little here and there, been playing a few hours a day since early launch. But what I described above, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say a lot of people aren’t going to find appealing.
I don’t have any suggestions for how to fix it. But I don’t want to see Boundless turn into a niche cult classic that only 100 devoted people play.
I could keep going through thread after thread, but I think this should be enough proof that the system is broken right now.
